;-; hi, peep keep on asking me about the tools I use in Sai + settings so there~ plus with a bit tutorial? haha ;-; I can't explain it well~ but I hope you understand it~step 5: apply the colors you picked on step 4... apply it everywhere *it's up to you where to put these colors~
steps 6: if you're not happy with the outcome you can edit/fix it then add details and etc. that's all.

Interesting tutorial! I find it really difficult to set brushes in SAI so it's really helpful to try how others do it. Though I usually end up using my own settings, which is good I guess, since I'm developing my own style ^_^
BTW, the names of your brushes just earned you 1000+ respect points from me!

From what I understand;
1) Start with the lineart. Seems to not use black as color for it, but something that can compliment the colors of the full art later on. Use the pen tool.
2) Lower the density to 27. Fill the base color for the skin and then use the same color/density to add shadow effects.
3) Repeat step 2, but for the hair instead.
4) Throw out the vivid colors you were using. Grab the color select tool (lawl for fail proper names) and grab each of the new colors- they should be unsaturated and lighter.
5) For each color (?) go back to the lighter pen density, create a dark to light scale to create a subtle dark to light effect. Use these colors for shadows and highlights. Clean up lineart.
6) Repeat the last part of step five and create more intense shadows/lighting where needed. Use saturated, darker colors where needed. See bottom for blending/smoothing example.
Or, that's what I figured out. The bottom part is just explaining how to blend two colors to make one with the brush tool, and then how to use the waterbrush tool to smooth things out.
