Description
New and improved! EDIT: Rainbow's yellow mane/cutie mark color was incorrectly listed. This has since been fixed, please redownload the updated copy. All of the color guides are getting a revamp. The guides are all now two pages, one for digital applications (such as vectors, painting in Photoshop, 3D modeling, etc) and the other for print applications (customs, merch, T-shirts, et cetera). The PNG preview for the digital guide should be OK to use as well, so the PDF is optional.
If you use Google Chrome or Safari, they will attempt to open the file in-line with Google Docs PDF viewer. DO NOT EYEDROP THOSE COLORS. SAVE THE PDF FILE. The Google Docs viewer displays in a very low bit depth that results in dithering of the colors. Until Deviantart gives me a way to disable this, you should use the download file link to view the guide!
They are also now more space efficient, and will be able to scale better with ponies that have more colors than normal.
The Digital guides aim to be as close to the show as possible, while the print guides aim to be as close to official merch as possible. When there's no merch of that pony (e.g. background ponies) then the print colors will be based on my conversions which will aim to reproduce the show without looking too weird or have obvious gamut problems.
It is safe to eyedrop the digital colors or use the hex/RGB codes - the swatches should match up just fine. Just make sure you're working in sRGB color mode.
For the merch guides, the spot colors are rendered using CMYK alternate color space. This is based on my own examinations of the merch boxes, where the spot colors are simulated straight to process anyway.

PMS is short for Pantone Matching System, and Red 032 is one of the primary colors.

I just want to say, I am not actually a ponies person, but my sis is, so I'm painting her a pic of RD, and this guide has helped me so very much! Thank you for taking the time to put these together!

Is it just me or is the rgb yellow (hair/cutie mark) some sort of purple? Otherwise very helpful guide! I would be glad if you could add rgb values to the other guides as well.

Augh, I swear I fixed that, but it looks like an uncorrected version still made it up. This will be fixed tonight.
The swatch is correct if you eyedrop it. The color is the same color as Fluttershy's fill, which is #FDF6AF and I'll make sure to fix it.
I swear I triple-check these things but mistakes still get through. Thanks for giving me the heads up.
"I would be glad if you could add rgb values to the other guides as well."
The other guides will be updated time permitting to the new format, so don't worry.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but what is "PANTONE Process Blue C" and "PANTONE Red 032 C" in RGB or hexadecimal values? I am using a webpage to convert the values but I am unable to find these two.
Also, what does the 85% and 75% mean? Is it simply opacity?

kefkafloyd In reply to RainbowCupcakeBath [2012-04-12 21:25:26 +0000 UTC]
The percentage is a tint.
What you should do is open the file up in Photoshop, which should rasterize it. Then use the eyedropper to pick out the color.

1. Check firewall to see whether you can download files.
2. Right click on the "Download File" link.
3. Save your file to a folder.
4. Download the Adobe Reader program.
5. Open up the file to be read by Adobe Reader.
6. Profit.

You forgot "??????"
But anyways, as I've said, I already solved the problem by using a proxy which was beyond weird. Also, I had no problems accessing the other color guides at the time, so it wasn't a firewall problem. Apparently I can access the file normally now. Wonder what was up with that.

I posted this after I saw that you had fixed the problem.
And I was able to download all the guides fine as well.

Well, I've done Chrome, Lunascape with Gecko and Webkit, and even Internet Explorer. I've also had two friends try it, most likely was on Chrome. It's probably also worth noting I seem to be able to download the other color guides fine. And then I had the crazy idea of trying a proxy, and that worked...? Derpy derp derp

What exactly do you mean by 85% of a color? Is it 85% opacity on top of a white layer?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
kefkafloyd In reply to zachgamer77 [2011-11-26 16:16:24 +0000 UTC]
It's an 85% tint. If you're using something that can define spot colors and tints (such as Illustrator, InDesign, or spot channels in Photoshop), you can specify a tint percentage of the same color.
If you're just eyedropping, then you don't need to worry about the tint percentage, the swatch already has the proper tint value and the eyedropper will pick it up in your color space.

The image is from official Hasbro clipart, and that's how it was there. The actual piece of clip art was not produced by me, believe it or not. Blame the guys who created the clipart, not me. :V However, it's extremely easy to fix their error, so I'll get on that tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.

(There are a few other errors that they made that I haven't fixed, like the Celestia one where her top mane color is wrong, but I was planning on making a second Celestia guide anyway, so we'll see.)

Good work, except you mis-ordered the colors on Rainbow's front mane (should go red/orange/yellow, not yellow/orange/red).
Why take it down? You used the guide as it was intended.
