I used the word conflagration, which is a large all consuming fire, and combined it with the word talon.

I didn't mention much about the lion/griffon aspect, but I don't feel that every pokemon name acknowledges... really even any of what inspired the idea. When it came down to it, I feel the names were easy to say, and also looked somewhat fitting, and if not, maybe some of the ideas with help you decide a better name.

But regardless, these are excellently designed, each having it's roots, but also some embellishing intheir designs. I'm none too fond of the first stage though, because aside from the wings and colors it has no really connection with the others, and the whole egg idea really remind me more of a digimon form, in that it's sooo simplified. I feel like adding some legs or some other distinguishing feature to it, maybe a beack poking out (since when things hatch their beak often breaks the shell)

Maybe add a tail even? Just something to know that there is a griffon inside that shell, and not just a little birdie.

Hmm... Great idea, but i hate the pose the last one is in. (Hate it on real pokemon to) And i like the name Crimseg. It makes me want to hug it

Having trouble with names eh? *evil grin*

1st Stage: Crimseg
Origin: Crimson and Egg.
Reasoning: It's an egg, and looks to be the color crimson, duh. XD

2nd Stage: Feugeleo
Origin: From the words "Vogel des Feuers", which is German for Bird of Fire, and the word leo, which, I do believe is Latin for Lion.
Reasoning: The Griphon is a large creature with traits of birds and lions, hence vogel and leo, and since it has fire on it, as well as being the fire type, I think Feuers fits in well too. =3

3rd Stage: Phongir
Origin: An anagram of Griphon.
Reasoning: Well, it is a griphon. So it fits. 8D

Good sprites, though. Using them in the WSC, I assume? ;D
