Description
Here is a custom 24th century Star Fleet ship of mine.
It is a survey craft that comes in after the big explorers to do more detailed research and analysis.

Nice small sized surveyor. Could see it as a perimeter defense vessel also. I would guess that as a surveyor the ship could seek out and examine new planets or moons for life supporting conditions to possibly set a colony there. Like an explorer but after the star system has been found by exploration ships, a surveyor could come along, following the stellar maps created by other larger ships, to investigate the new found worlds or moons in much more detail to see if a moon or planet could support humanoid life.

That's pretty much my vision for it. In someways it was difficult to justify such a small craft. However having this sit around in a solar system for weeks or months to do intensive survey's after the big explorers did their work seemed to make sense. Certainly this ship is not well equipped to explore the unknown.

Seems like a good fit for her size to be just what you said, a surveyor. I just saw she was so well-armed that she might be good in a firefight, like maybe a fast attack destroyer, which is why I said it could be reworked into a variant that could serve as a perimeter defense vessel. If you look at a design class like the Akayza (spelling??) or the older Oberth, this ship could replace either of those ship designs with improved self-defense capabilities. I like great ship designs and this is one great one that could have splinters of variants for different main functions. A universal small cruiser that could do surveying, stellar mapping (cartography), perimeter defense, act like an armed escort or fast destroyer.

I see what your saying. Indeed this could serve multiple rolls. It's definitely far better equipped than the Oberth, but far from the later Nova class. The Akyazi class is older, but also much larger (over 200m long). I think if you could somehow re-equip this with pulse canons or type 8 phasers, it could act as perimeter defense. Although if it traveled back in time 100-200 years it would be a monster...

Well, you know...
this isn't REALLY a starship...

WHY do you say it isn't a real starship?! Looks like one to me. Or a schematic for one anyway.

Remember the dust-up about whether the heavenly body Pluto is 'actually' a planet? This refs that.

When I was a kid we were taught that there were 9 planets. Then suddenly like out of the clear blue, they said Pluto is not a planet. If it orbits the Sun then by Astrometric definition it is a planet. Or can a moon orbit a star without a planet for it to orbit?! Is Pluto at least a moon?! Maybe a glorified asteroid?! Maybe a synthetic structure such as an alien starbase?! Pluto would be like a toll booth in order to gain entrance to the rest of the inner solar system?! LOL.

Perhaps. Then again, they say the runabout is a starship.

Perhaps the controversy over the status of that RL heavenly body is to dated to be invoked..?

Yeah. I was mostly inspired by that little Archer class and wanted to keep the aesthetic of that round saucer.

For some reason i find a wide eliptic shape (like the Galaxy Class had) on a starfleet ship much more aestheticly pleasing than a round or streched one (sovereign for example).

I suppose I'm a bit partial to that myself.
