I used Maya 2009 for the animation and Shake for compositing. As far as the render time is concerned, I can't really say. I rendered it shot by shot while still animating other shots. I rendered the whole thing over the course of 2 months(?), using the Hampshire College render farm, which has about 60 boxes and 120 processors, each with 4 gigs of ram.

I'd say, at least a 2.5 ghz dual core processor and several gb of RAM, if you want it to have reasonable render times.

i have 5 gigs. usually its the processor that does the rendering, the ram make the work faster.

I used Maya 8.5 for the animation, Shake for compositing, and final cut pro for editing.

I don't really know what goes into the whole animation process so I'm not sure which aspects of it I should feel safe to comment on and which you had no control over...

The lighting and puppy movement animation seemed pretty solid, the textures, physics, and human movement animations need work.

yeah, i suppose i could go into detail explaining the intent of the project and all that, and that might help viewers understand why it's a bit crazy.. >.>

... maybe later.

What you should know is that it was a huge learning exercise in character animation, and that most of the stuff I did early on was of the human, so by the time i got to animating coyote, i was finally starting to get the hang of it but didnt have the time to go back and fix the early stuff.. Also, they are demigods, so anything that seems strange should be chocked up to magic, because magic explains everything. Including the minimalistic textures, which was intended to look like glorified toon-shading, and by that i mean it is explained by magic.
