Description When Samus Aran enters a dark nebula, more than just any derelict ship broadcasting a distress signal await. Shades of her past threaten to deny her a future!

Happy Halloween 2011, everybody!

Made for the Halloween contest at Metroid-Club.

Which doesn't mean just anybody can't enjoy it! Please give my hard work a chance!

-EDIT November 2011-

I won! I won! First place in the contest which included not just other literature works but fullfledged digital art. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who voted for my work; the competition was stiff and my victory close but it was you that made it happen. Thank you.

Here's the proof:

Contest 9 - Halloween:trophy:

And the winners are...

:star: FIRST PLACE:

:iconnofairatu: with Metroid - Shades of Yesterday
Ghosts of Samus' past return to her when she answers a distress call and boards a destroyed ship. An excellent bit of fiction that reminds us of how badass Samus is, and how spooky her games can be!~ Chosen by :devzimeta08:

:star: SECOND PLACE:

:iconzoesaday: with The Evil of the Thriller
I don't know - it just made me laugh! An Halloween is all about fun, right? Haha. Enjoy Dark Samu dancing to MJ's thriller. We love that you added in the background zombie dancers. Lovely work!~ Chosen by :devmistytang:

:star: THIRD PLACE:

:iconfaro

And I got an awesome pic from Dan Rootay as my prize as seen here:

DA likes to choke on my stuff...I get comments like these a lot. Just revisit the page and refresh it; the story should appear this time.

Thank you! I hadn't realized I'd won at first until I saw your comment; DA was updating its message at the time.
When I see long stories around DA, I usually download them to read at my leisure. You can always do that with any of mine to make it easier if you'd like. Let me know what you think if you get a chance to read it. Constructive comments and suggestions are always welcome!

Wow! This was really well done. Samus really feels like she should be, and I like the features used. One criticism is the mention of plastic in her suit description; it must be said that the original suit was created by the Chozo and use of such primitive materials would be ineffective for Samus' needs. Take that with a pinch of salt though, as this was really brilliant. Good Job.

KeithEKimball In reply to Shorjok [2011-10-31 23:49:52 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I should probably say "high-impact plastics" or something, you're right. I was surprised to hear how much of that stuff is in our real-life electronics myself. (Although of course, as you say, the super-advanced Chozo tech just might not need any plastics at all.) I'll fix that error too. Heh, guess that's what I get for procastinating right down to the last minute of contest time, eh?
I must stop doing that. Imagine how much better my blood pressure will be.
But seriously, thanks for the correction and thanks super-triple-more for actually reading my story...and liking it to boot! All the "Alien" and "The Thing" jokes were fun to put in, I hope you enjoyed those too.

Yeah, they were quite funny. I think the 'gore' pun made me chuckle a little.
Did you realise that you won the competition? You certainly deserve it! Oh yeah, one more thing....please do more of these stories! Hey, maybe even think about on entitled 'project dread'.....eh...eh..

KeithEKimball In reply to Shorjok [2011-11-02 02:42:24 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I didn't realize I'd won until I saw GameDweeber's congratulatory message, after replying to you & DCB2011. That made me pretty happy, I'll admit.
Thank you for your kind words, again!
Hmm, Project Dread, eh? That was a DS Metroid game that never materialized, right? It would make for a great title...and yes, being a shameless Samus fanboy, I will definately do more Metroid stories.

Amazing. I literally sighed, "Oh joy." when I realized it was a fanfic, but this actually impressed me. You portrayed Samus as who she is: A hardened bounty hunter, always with her guard up, and with a good strategy. The scenes seemed very well thought-out, I could easily picture them in my mind. The fighting was descriptive, and there were some great plot twists.
Honestly, the only negative thing I have to say is that you misspelled Bryyo as 'Brio'. But overall, I absolutely loved every line of this.

Oh crap, you're right; I'll fix that spelling error right away! (whoops...)
And thank you very much for your kind comments; It's very sweet of you and I'm pleased you took the time to actually read it too. As you say, so many people go "oh joy" when they get past the preview pics and see a story instead.
And I have to agree that Samus should not be all Other M emo... Not to say her heart's not made of gold if you don't dig deep enough, but that game's portrayal of her really, really stank IMHO.
And I really enjoyed putting in Samus' line about: "There no such thing as ghosts, DUH!!"

DCB2011 In reply to KeithEKimball [2011-11-01 01:43:29 +0000 UTC]

Heh ^^

You're very welcome. I also agree that Other M's portrayal was pretty bad, it's the main reason I've only played the game once. The graphics are stunning and all, but the way Samus was done is just... ech.

Yeah, that line actually made me laugh XD

KeithEKimball In reply to DCB2011 [2011-11-01 07:43:23 +0000 UTC]

I have to agree with you on Other M...for the first time ever, I finished a Metroid game, unlocked Hard Mode even, and my obsessive-compulsive personality did not demand I finish the game on the next difficulty setting. Actually I sold the dumb thing afterwards...and I don't do that either. Still got my NES and 8-bit Metroid to go with it!

DCB2011 In reply to KeithEKimball [2011-11-01 12:42:15 +0000 UTC]

Heh. I've been thinking about selling it or giving it to a friend who wants it.

The only old Metroid game I have is Super Metroid on the Nintendo Virtual Console :c And I haven't even beaten that yet XD

Super Metroid's difficulty is no joke; especially Ridley. (Not quite as bad as Corruption in Hard mode, but still...) But then again you definately earn some serious bragging rights once you conquer it! Good luck!
