Description
Here's my latest hyperrealistic pencil drawing. A3 size as usual. It's called Ice bucket and was inspired by a photograph by the amazing Shannon Haughton Gill. Hope you like it.Related content

this is a very amazing piece. great use of this dramatic scene. great use of light to dark tones. i do like the black background but a nice white background may have worked just as good. great work on the splashes of water running down this boys face. nice work with certain areas of highlights such as on the boys right side of his head. i like how the water near his left eye makes him looks like he is crying. this is a perfect example of hyper realism.
great work keep it up. u have great skill with pencil.

Hi Marcio,
Here's a list of what I use and some tips to help you along.
Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 series B, 2B,4B,8B. I have three of each of these pencils, sharp, medium and blunt. Practice using various pressures to achieve different values. I use a Staedtler Mars Lumograph 8B (for black backgrounds). Tombow mono mini eraser, scalpel (to cut Tombow to a sharp edge) Putty eraser or Blu Tack, Small & medium tortillions and blending stumps, Donegan OptiVISOR jewellers magnifiers, Bristol board 250gm.
I use the grid method and when I'm working on a drawing I'm pretty much doing it grid by grid. My reference is on a computer screen and whichever grid square I'm working on is zoomed into on the screen. That way, the values that surround it don't distract me and I can really concentrate on every detail within that grid square. I spend quite a while studying the grid square I'm about to draw before working on it. This get's my eyes tuned into the values and composition within that section.Β
Do a Google search for Edward H. Adelson. Β There's a chess board illustration he's done that demonstrates how a value will appear to change depending on what is next to it. Square A and B are the same value in this illustration.Β
