Thanks Leonel, happy you like it. I don't use charcoal but I do use a Stadetler mars lumograph 8B for my black backgrounds.Β

Very good work Keith, you are skillful with your pencils as your guitar... wow !
A question, like the drawing with the girl behind the wet window, do you start this drawing on a black paper ?Β
Have creative and Happy New Year

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the kind comments. I used white Bristol board for all my drawings Β Here's a list of what I use if you're interested.
Pencils: Faber Castell 9000 series B, 2B,4B,8B. I have three of each of these pencils, sharp, medium and blunt. Practice using various pressures to achieve different values. I use a Staedtler Mars Lumograph 8B (for black backgrounds). Tombow mono mini eraser, scalpel (to cut Tombow to a sharp edge) Putty eraser or Blu Tack, Small & medium tortillions and blending stumps, Donegan OptiVISOR jewellers magnifiers, Bristol board 250gm.

Wow thank you very much for the detailed explanation... a lot of tools to make a portrait.
Faber Castel and Steadler are one of the best pencils to draw and have strong contrast, the 8B are great to have a deep black.
I draw my portraits with Caran d'Ashe watercolour pencils (fat) , so very good to have strong colours and deep contrast too, I wet it sometimes to have a very good white for the strong light.
I will copy your explanation to remember it Thanks again.

I've experimented with all the different brands of graphite pencils and Faber Castell 9000 are perfect for me. I've never tried colour pencils but it's something I might look into. I was really into painting with gouache years ago and I'm thinking about trying some animal portraits with them in the near future. Let me know whenever you post a new work.Β

Hi Keith, Black and white is great to draw or paint the light and contrast, I love it. I began to paint with black and white gouache and later colours. I learnt to paint with gouache, it is a great medium and now I only paint with acrylic medium, I love it.Β
Try monochrome portraits on a mid tinte paper, (gray or brown) you can draw with two pencils black and white, it is easier to me than on white paper. You can draw the light and shade and the mid tinte paper is the mid tinte colour of your drawing.Β
