I will say that though I am a fan of canon, I really don't think that Kya would have dreadlocks as a child/teen (not to mention I hate the way they look on most people), and so I have done my best to keep her recognizable and yet obviously younger. Since she was the first one I've done, I'm going to go ahead and post Bumi, Tenzin, Lin, and the original Gaang as I get around to them.
Tell me what you think! We have so little info on her so I have no idea what her personality is like, so it's guesswork on her expressions, but I'm pretty satisfied with this one. I hope that there are flashbacks featuring the older Gaang and their children- I want to see if I'm even remotely close in guessing!

She did in the older design sheet that the official artists released, but it turns out she won't have dreads when she appears in he show. Turns out my headcanon was right on all along!

I like the expressions, it's a good blend between Aang and Katara, but I think her skin should be a bit darker since she got her looks from Katara.

Yeah, she really should have darker skin- it's hard to do with colored pencils without messing up, though!

thanks! I just made a younger version of the original, so in my mind, she's going to look like the official version when she's older. I just could NOT make her have dreads as a teenager though. After all, she'd have plenty of time to have her looks evolve, right?

First thing that caught my attention--you're water is looking great! And honestly, I think your version of Kya looks better than the sketch on the Avatar Wiki--she actually looks related to Katara and Aang here...
I totally agree--there really should be some flashbacks. It would be interesting to see the show's artists' interpretations of the older versions of the characters.

I had to look at the show's art work to see just how they drew water in the first place-- I had no idea how complicated it would be to draw moving water! Thankfully the final product turned out way better than I had hoped, and I may do some more pics of waterbending just to practice.
Hopefully she looks like she's a younger version of what's found on Avatar Wiki- I just could NOT draw her young and wearing dreads though. I just couldn't.
I can hardly wait for Korra to see Aang, and for the flashbacks (I'm SURE there must be some planned, look at the Zuko alone episode, and The Storm!) to show us just what the Gaang looked/acted like as they became adults with kids of their own.

That would have looked kind of odd; though, I've seen plenty of people at my school walking around with dreads. I couldn't do that because I particularly like clean hair...
That would be so cool! It would be great if they showed whether or not Sokka or Zuko had any kids too, since there's no mention of either of them having any so far.

I can't STAND dreadlocks. Hair that's clean is much nicer, and can be done up in a lot more ways.
I'm almost certain Sokka and Zuko had children- as Firelord, Zuko would need an heir, and Sokka is too... um, Sokka-ish to leave Suki alone for long.

Very nice. This is really good when you put into consideration your earlier template of Kya. You claimed those ones were of Kya growing up, but now we have her all grown up here. This is quite remarkable.
I can't wait to see Bumi, Tenzin, and maybe a pic of the whole family. Hope you can post those real soon!

My earlier template was of my earlier imagining of what Kya could be, before I saw the pic of her as an adult and before she even had a name released. This pic here is the one that I'm hoping is much more close to canon, and it helps satisfy me in knowing that she's young enough here to where she wouldn't HAVE to have those awful dreads yet, and yet she's recognizable.
Bumi will probably be up next!

I reffed it (the waterbending pose) by snagging a vid of a Master who specialized in Snake Hung Gar and in a type of Tai Chi known as Water Boxing. The Water boxing looks VERY similar to water bending, so I played it on super slow motion and paused it long enough to get the pose.

I haven't seen anyone draw her as a teen yet so this is refreshing and I can't wait to see Bumi, Lin and Tenzin as well.
