MISSION 5 - PART 1

If felt as if I had been hit in the stomach; it was hard to take in a full breath without feeling...empty. I quietly lead the way along the outskirts of town, in an attempt to avoid Sorbet's gaze, if that thing was even Sorbet. Behind me, Matthew and Riley quickly followed; I was quite surprised at how well Riley was keeping caught up. I couldn't let my mind wander for too long...and it wasn't long until I froze dead in my tracks. The town, the place where I had spent most of my life, my friends lived; the town that offered protection...everything was destroyed.

"Kelsea, we have to keep moving," Matthew urged, strong yet calm. "It's horrible...I know. But, we can fix it. Just keep going, Kelsea." I could feel the horror in his voice, the pure, rigid horror, like I could feel the snow beating against my body.

I pushed forward, and it wasn't long until we found ourselves nearing a large group of Pokémon. I didn't recognize too many Pokémon, but in the crowd, I easily picked out Enigma, a large, strong-willed Raichu with a red scarf, Dust, a golden-coated Growlithe, Azure, a strong-looking Flareon, and Knight, a rather grumpy-looking Growlithe. It didn't dawn on me at first, but it appeared that rescuers, merchants, and rogues were gathering...all of the guilds combining to do something...to work together and save the town. I couldn't help but let a small smile slip, amidst all of the destruction; maybe this, in the end, would be a good thing?

"Kelsea, come here!" I heard Riley shout, snapping me out of my thoughts. I turned and looked; Riley stood with a large Absol, with an Elekid on his back.

"Zach, Alex...what's going on?" I shouted quickly, rushing to their side, where Riley and Matthew stood, horrified expressions on their faces.

"Well," Alex started, hastily, "Sorbet has gone crazy!"

Knight, the growlithe that I had seen earlier, had pushed his way through the crowd and stood strongly in front of us. I hadn't known Knight on a personal level, I had just seen him around the town, but news of his loss had spread like wild fire; his partner, a Snorunt named Yukina, was killed during a mission. "Everyone's evacuating because that dragon that always hangs around the fountain has gone berserk. I don't really care, but if you feel like getting yourself killed, some crazy 'mon are trying to draw him away from the village."

I glanced at Matthew, and then back at the surrounding Pokémon. I noticed a small Ratatta in a fedora sitting next to Riley. "Basically," he spoke, calmly, "the guilds are teaming up to save the village. Gunpowder, Maple, Dmitri and that one Ampharos are gathering 'mon to lead Sorbet away from the village. Devonshire is clearing out a tunnel under the law firm to help the villagers escape out of the town. Shroomsworth and Chrys are evacuating other villagers, such as Missy and her baby Pokémon, and Mike and Sandy are heading out to the Ranch to bring the ranchers back to the tunnels."

I quickly turned to face Matthew and Riley. "Matthew, I want you to go and find Devonshire and help clear out the tunnels."

"Yes, Kelsea." He dipped his head, before turning away from the crowd, and running towards the law firm. "Matthew!"

I saw him freeze in his tracks, and turn and look. "What is it?"

My heart was caught in my throat. I couldn't utter what I was thinking...no, not now. Those three little words...I could say them when we were safe, when there was no rampaging dragon, and when I could clearly look into his eyes. "Be safe!"

He smiled, cockily. "I'll come back for you, safe and sound!" With that, Matthew disappeared into the blizzard. My heart swelled, and, despite the blizzard, I felt warm. I shook my head; my village needed me now.

"Riley! I want you to head to the Ranch with Mike and Sandy and help out the Ranchers!" He nodded quietly.

"We're heading that way right now!" A voice echoed behind me. I turned to see a Bayleef and a Deerling standing behind me. Although I didn't know their names, I did recognize them as members of Team Amber. "Come on!"

Riley turned his back, and quickly limped after them. "Arceus's speed, Kelsea!" Riley howled back, and I vanished into the crowd. There was one thing left for me to do, now that my partners were out of danger. Riley would be safe helping Mike and Sandy, as Matthew would be safe with Devonshire. I had to help stop that dragon.
