Description ~Dynamic Dawn~

Never mind the jerky head in the animation. I just found out that if you use soft body dynamics (Bullet physics engine) to create some chest bounce, the posing dials no longer work on the figure, so I could not fix the animation. The figure is no longer posable once you start the dynamics simulation.

Figure is Dawn. Used soft body dynamics on the chest and hair, and cloth simulation on the shirt. Hope you like it and thanks for coming by!

Have you tried Blender?

Yes, but couldn't get along with the interface and general workflow. I have been using 3DSMAX since the days of DOS.

All my graphical stuff is done with Blender.

Blender only came up a couple of decades after I got started with 3D, so for most time it was not an option for me.

It’s a very powerful package, which integrates many different aspects of CG production into a single workflow. It’s designed for speed, and avoiding popups that get in your way.

I have already used Blender, and I thought it requires TOO many mouse clicks to do even simple things. I have used many other modeling programs, and Blender was the most click-intensive I have seen so far. I am sticking to 3DSMAX, where I can get the work done without wearing out my mouse too much. I am not saying that Blender is bad, but instead that I personally prefer the more streamlined pipeline from 3DSMAX. In addition, most companies I have worked for always required 3DSMAX, so when it comes to staying in business, I have to stick to the industry standards.

It's actually great that people have free options nowadays, and if Blender works for you, even better!

For an example of what I mean about avoiding popups, consider adding a simple geometric object like a UV sphere. For this you need to specify the number of segments (longitudinal divisions) and rings (latitudinal divisions). Rather than pop up a dialog where you try to guess at numbers, click OK, see the result is wrong, undo and try again, the object is immediately created with initial settings for these parameters, and an β€œAdd UV Sphere” panel appears in the Toolshelf where you can change the values.

As you put in new numbers, the object is recreated with the new settings, so you immediately see whether they are right or not. When you are happy, you simply go on to doing the next thing.

So, no popups, no interruption to your workflow. You can continue working at maximum productivity.

Thanks! It was my 1st try with soft body dynamics to create "bounce" in Poser. ^^

I got a lot of jitterness out of poser, still trying to find the parameter to eliminate the jitterryness, I had set bounce to zero. Can you show the setting or guide me to how to smooth the bounce?

I suspect maybe its the walk designer motion that is jittered?!?!

Do you animate the run or use walk designer for the animation?

I use WD (Walk Designer) as a starting point and then customize the animation using the animation curves editor. Using WD with Dawn introduced some distortions because the motion was meant for Vicky4, who has different body proportions. This can usually be fixed in the curves editor, but it's not a button push - it takes some work going through each joint and adjusting the curves for each axis, until the animation looks like what you want. Sometimes we need to clean up the animation curves that come out of WD and other sources, because editing is impossible when every frame has a key assigned. It's best to delete the exceeding keys and leave only a few so you can edit the motion without spiking out the animation curves. ^^

Thanks! The animation kinda sucks, but I like the new dynamics with the Bullet engine.

And talking about the form, I will try again on a better outfit next time. Dawn's bikini falls apart when turned dynamic.

I could show the bounce better if I had a bikini I could make dynamic, but as you know, Dawn's wardrobe is still quite tiny at the moment. The animation is rather crappy when all dials gets frozen after we start a simulation. Next time I will make sure to fix all animation glitches *before* setting up the sims. They cannot be saved and reused. >___<
