Description
Escaping the heat in a Florida Spring. This couple has launched floating tubes at the beginning of a Florida Spring and will spend hours floating down the spring river. Cooler than the ocean and no sharks!
Much of the rain in Florida drains down through the sand into an underground limestone lake/river/cave and travels toward the ocean. Along the way some of the water reaches low spots with cracks in the limestone allowing the water to leak out and form springs. In Florida there are almost 1,000 of these springs large enough to have a name. Spring water has usually been underground for decades and thus has taken on the temperature of rocks about 72F or 22C. Temperature at the surface, where the humans live, is not so cool, typically with summer heat indexes over 105F/40C. So a good way to cool down is to take a plunge in a Florida Spring.
