Description

The Darwin Awards, named after the father of evolution, are given to people who do something spectacularly stupid (and fatal) and can no longer pass on their genetic code. For example, bolting a rocket engine to a car for a desert joy ride, trying to leap the gap of an open drawbridge in a cheap car, smoking in the dynamite storage shed…you get the picture. It will be no surprise to all the women at DA that 90% of the Darwin Award “winners” are male.

However, I did come across this woman who deserves an honorable mention for trying. She was kayaking the Silver River with her dog. Of all the places I’ve been in Florida, the Silver River has the most alligators. Almost all of my gator images are from there. It’s a well known fact that alligators love dog meat. In fact, I was talking to a boater up river whose boat was rammed by a gator trying to get his dog. In her case a gator could just swim up and pick the dog off the floating appetizer tray, and then go for the main entree.
