Beautiful work! You definitely depicted a great sense of balance. She only needs to hold onto the bar lightly to offset her weight.
I'm very impressed by the gentle curves of her limbs. I find that very difficult to do well, but you did it! I like your color choices and where you used them. At first, the colors seem random, but they aren't. Every color is there for a reason and they make the piece vibrant but subtly so.

Thanks!!
As far as colors, I copied her leotard and tights pretty much exactly from the reference photo. I had already painted the background, over an older canvas I wasn't happy with, so I matched the skin tones to the background. So there was a good deal of thought involved, but also just a sense for color harmony I guess.
What draws me to paintings of dancers and athletes are the curves of their bodies, limbs and necks. I feel like the whole point of depicting a dancer or a gymnast is catching those subtle muscular points, the harmony of their limbs and the counterpoint of upper and lower arms and legs. One of the most beautiful things I have ever seen is the angle struck between a dancer's upper leg and lower leg, even just when standing...Don't get me started because I could probably philosophize on it all day.
