Description (Rant incoming, lots of swearing.)

I absolutely fucking LOATHE Fasttrack. He was made up by the laziness of the UAF creators. He is nothing but a cheap knockoff of XLR8. Worse, McDuffie confirmed that Fastrack was stronger than XLR8. All he ever did during the times he was used was constantly crash into things. Honestly, they could have easily brought back xlr8, but NO!! We got a fucking Knockoff of him instead. His design was also very lazy. He was way too humanoid and looked to much like nightwing with wolverine's head attached to it!

Anyways, rant aside. This is my reimagining of Fasttrack called ClimbCat. Instead of making him a speedster like XLR8, I thought I'd go original with him and make him a climber instead.

Name: ClimbCat

Race: Citrakayah

Planet: Chalybeas

Powers/Abilities: Climbing abilities, parkour, retractable claws, can survive fall from great heights, pads underfeet protect him from fall damage. Tail enables balance and extra scaling abilities

Weaknesses: Cannot climb slippery surfaces. Hates Water. Tail is sensitive.

Additonal Info: On planet Chalybeas, the Citrakayahs have evolved on a rugged terrain with lots of high trees and mountains. The Citrakayahs use their abilities to scale the highest of mountains. They are always competing with one another, to prove which citrakayah has the best climbing abilities. What no citrakayah has not been able to climb is a massive mountain called "The Space Stabber". No Citrakayah has climbed that high, those that did are given great rewards and greatly respected.

Even so, UAF didn't prove anything. He kept crashing into things each time he was used. He was practically extremely useless.

That is walkatrout's purpose. Haters constantly forget the purpose of the Omnitrix. It's not meant to grant superpowers, it was built so beings can understand each other. In the pop-up edition of the OS, Ultimos is a mutant, meaning his kind doesn't have superman powers as he does.

I like this revamp on Fasttrack. I mean his face is bloody adorable. Though I would call him "Cheetear", because of his giant claws.

I honestly want to defend Fasttrack. But given he was made just so they wouldn't use XLR8 does irk me enough to warrant a redesign for him.

You managed to do such a redesign very well. Giving powers that fit the new name and stick out from other aliens. At the same time, a good way to work in the powers into the culture of the alien race. A well thought out reimagining of the species as a whole as well.

Yeah exactly

Thanks, that's where I was going for. If I were to use fasttrack, I would reimagine him into something else. Thank you ^^

Hmm...in the past year a lot of my bitterness regarding UAF (and the franchise as a whole really) has cooled down, but Fasttrack is one of the few things that still annoys me.

I made him the ultimate hunter, with the only drawback with using him being that his physiology makes him really fragile and physically weak. This version is a cool alternative to the main canon as well.

Good to know. UAF to me (atleast in my opinion) still frustrates me with its bad writing, completely alienating to it's source yet is considered canon, and many more.

That's cool to know

I find a lot of my issues with UAF to be less about bad writing and more about bad creative decisions.

So many great concepts are set up, but are ultimately put aside for a fairly generic alien invasion plot (this kind of idea can still be done well and uniquely - the 2000s Blue Beetle series proved this - but ultimately the invasion seems really poorly thought out outside of the Xenocyte trafficking), then the return of Vilgax (I fully admit that I do like the initial fight between Ben and Vilgax in Alien Force was awesome to me as a kid, but now I tend to just question the power-scaling, and everything after that is meh at best), then the Andromeda Five stuff (a really cool idea in my opinion, but tainted by Aggrogor being a non-entity in terms of interesting characterisation), then Ultimate Keven (ugh...everything about this is awful), and then Diagon...who straight up sucked. You know who did an Expy of the Outer Gods correctly? Lewis Lovhaug from AtopTheFourthWall with the Entity.Β Twice. On a limited budget and whilst working around a review format that places plenty of creative limitations. This show has no excuse.

As for the interesting stuff that was set up? There's a lot to go over so I'll split it into paragraphs:

Firstly, there's Gwen's Anodyte form having a disillusionment effect on her humanity. That is an awesome idea, and while I heavily disagree with this show's "Make everyone aliens!" mentality, something as daring and unique as having a main character slowly begin to lose her humanity would've made up for it completely. Hell, if you want to keep her as a magician (which makes more sense anyway), you could simply have Verdona be an old friend to Max and have her show Gwen how to access an Anodyte hybrid form akin to the Omniverse design, and have that be the catalyst for her losing her humanity.

Secondly, there's Charmcaster. Man Of Action said at one point that they would've eventually had her reform (same with Kevin, but I'll get to that in a minute), and I like the idea of her reforming, but the way it's done in the show is baffling. She's an unrepentant villain for several episodes, then she teams up with them, then she kills everyone to revive her dead dad that no-one heard of before, then the Darkstar thing...and that's it? A bunch of random events that honestly make her look much worse than she ever did in the OS. Honestly, Hex's reformation in Omniverse makes more sense to me. He goes from a bombastic and vengeful sorcerer to this weird and quiet recluse (maybe out of a past guilt?) and between his last appearance in UAF and his debut in Omniverse he decided to repent for his past sins by teaching youths in the same way he should've taught Charmcaster. Omniverse also makes more sense as a CC reformation arc to me as well; she ends her time on the show under the watchful eyes of Gwen and Hex, who'll gradually help her heal. It makes sense, and if that rumoured spin-off show with Gwen ever happened, I bet that her healing process would've been a major plot-line in it.

Thirdly...Kevin. In the past year I've realised the hypocrisy of me being against him reforming due to me generally being a big fan of reformation arcs, but dear lord was this one screwed up. Firstly, retconning Kevin into an alien is just as dumb as making Gwen an alien, and having him angst over his dead dad that no-one heard of before (notice a pattern here?) was also dumb. Being inspired by him to reform is fine, but there's a problem: No set up. You know, there's an easy way to redeem this; simply have Kevin show up throughout season one, and gradually have Ben and Gwen discover more about his past before confronting Max on the subject and having him reveal that Devin was a Mutant (not an alien!) Plumber who died on a mission, and that his death led Kevin to become a troubled youth like in the OS.Β

Fourthly, the Flame Keeper's Circle Cult, and Julie being converted into their ranks. This could've been used to convey a very important message to everyone about how easy the mind can be manipulated with choice words and gestures, but nope; just Julie being rude to Ben for an episode before it was dropped. Plus this could've served as a nice way to write her out of the role of Love Interest in time for Omniverse.Β

Fifthly, there's the whole thing with King Xarion and his nation. Another one-off idea that could've been so much more. Not much else to say on this one, just that it annoys me that they set up this big conflict and do nothing with it. Sure, Xarion was took out, but there's still political powerhouses there.

And finally, there's Ben himself. I get the impression that UAF was meant to show Ben as mature, but still willing to be goofy and fun. It fails to balance that most of the time (a problem that admittedly remains in Omniverse, though the more comedic tone there compliments it better for reasons I'll get to in a moment), as Ben flips between being jokey and stern-faced between each episode. That's not progression, it's inconsistency. However, that would be fine if the show wasn't trying to be so serious, especially in Ultimate Alien. Waring nations, cults, death, xenophobia, ethical debates, psychological issues; all of these serious topics show up in a show that can't keep it's main character consistent and relies on pointless retcons to give the other two main characters stuff to angst over before they begin their overshadowing romance. I applaud the show for trying to talk about serious issues, but I cannot overlook everything else. Omniverse can be serious, despite what a lot of naysayers imply, but for the most part it is an Action/Comedy cartoon and embraces it, which in a weird way I respect more.

...Huh, I had way more stuff to talk about here than I thought. I guess I'll summarise this by saying that, despite my many complaints with UAF, I still like it more than the freaking reboot, and that Dwayne McDuffie and the rest of the team behind the show had/have genuine talent, and that I still have immense respect for them; that talent just wasn't as prevalent here as it is in their other works, at least in my humble opinion.

Interesting way to make Fasttrack

Honestly I kinda focused more on a hunter style for him XP Basically focusing on the 'tracking' part...and also making it that his and XLR8 are different enough despite both being speedsters.

Though the parkour powers sound really cool! Makes him sound like he's gonna be able to do good for chases still even without the super speed.

Thanks

That's cool, might give him some tracking powers to make him more original.

That's where I was going for, since he lacks the speed, I thought I'd make him more interesting if he had parkour powers.

Makes sense to me

Got the idea for the tracking powers from Zig. It made sense to me. Plus I also tried to play up more the cheetah thing. ;;
