I just realized, my laptop still sort of half-ass works... and it still has FreeBSD installed and working (I know because I still use it to watch anime)... so I could just set it up and deal with it shutting itself off and clicking like mad crazy randomly just so I can have a BSD box sitting next to me

I'm envious... I'm going to get a new computer for FreeBSD soon, or go so nuts I just wipe this Windows box out... but there's all that music I'd have to transfer over... what a mess.

Linux and Unix have different ditrobutions, Linux has Redhad, Mandrake, Slackware, etc. Unix has FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc. Each distro is written by different companies, but based on the same kernel.
It'd be like someone editing windows, changing some stuff and releasing it as their own seperate operating system.. This is legal with *nix because it is all open source, you cant do something like that with windows though, because it is not open source and protected by law.
