I've never been terribly fond of this term. It's just....

And anyway, 'Grammar Gestapo' sounds better.

I'm LOLing at some of these comments. Is 'pedantic' really appropriate for an adult who knows grade-school level grammar?

I must confess, I can be a grammar nazi. o^o; But-but, I only use my power for good!
The only time I correct is when a kid say something like "I drunken it" or something. It is wrong. They must know. O-o Especially when they're old enough to KNOW basic grammar.

Argh. Drives me crazy.

The point is not not to point out incorrect grammar but how lightly the term "nazi" is used.

Luna-Ce [2012-11-02 02:19:30 +0000 UTC]

Well, I always thought "Grammar Nazi" was meant as an insult towards someone who obsessively corrects grammar and spelling, so it always confused me when people call /themselves/ Grammar Nazis. It's like saying "Yeah, I'm a total whore! ". It's not meant as a compliment.

I'm like this myself, though I do prefer the term "grammar police" or even "grammar freak". Because I have a friend who wouldn't mind treating me to this kind of lecture if I used the term.

Rinkinkeen [2012-11-02 02:03:20 +0000 UTC]

I suggest using "grammar police" instead. A much less horrible term.

I don't like the term. |D

I prefer Grammar Overlord, use the wrong grammar and spend the rest of your days digging in the mines for colons, semicolons and the occasional exclamation point

Something like the mistake in the comic isn't too bad. I hate it when I find online posts that just scream "Shoot me! I'm full of grammar and spelling mistakes, and totally lack punctuation. Just shoot me now!"

OTL!!! I understand the need to use short forms and acronyms for convenience, but do they have to butcher everything? >A>;;

cddmanful [2012-11-02 01:46:47 +0000 UTC]

More like spelling-Nazi.... I think part of the problem is the arrogant "I can spell/use grammar better than you, and I love to show it off" attitude the grammar-nazi has.....

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

MelodySyper [2012-11-02 01:43:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I've always hated the term... or more like... I can't stand when people add Nazi to the end of everything.

Anyway! Punctuation wise~ I prefer the term "Pilkunnussija" over "Grammar Nazi".

I'm not terribly fond of that term myself, but I am a bit overzealous when it comes to grammar and the like. XD Something I think a lot of people (including myself) could work on.

"Nazi" is a proper noun, meaning it has to be capitalized.

No, capitalization falls under the category of grammar.

Phantasim-Fan In reply to ??? [2012-11-02 00:09:55 +0000 UTC]

I've never been fond of the term either. I know it's meant to imply that the person is strict with their grammar (because the Nazis were some strict motherfuckers), but really it's just annoying.

Using the term "Nazi" implies that the people who care about proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation, are bad. The term literally demonizes intelligence by basically saying "Anyone who calls me out on my ignorance or my mistakes is an asshole".

PureTassel In reply to Phantasim-Fan [2012-11-02 00:55:15 +0000 UTC]
