Description Pokemon Trainer Surprise, since I had nothing better to do.

Haven’t tried drawing Sugimori style in ages. Goddamn, it changed a lot.

I prefer the classic Sugimori style to the modern style, now that I've had time to adjust. Was much more... unique.

not sure. I still haven't seen anything really similar. Other than the more rounded shapes I don't see too much difference in essence.

The classic style was somewhat more sharp and jagged around the edges, character's weren't as tall, the eyes weren't huge and [practically] soulless, and it was overall much simpler. Compare RBY era Red with FRLG Red.

While the modern Sugimori style is much more progressive and visually appealing (dat Hilda/Touko), the classic one carries a more individual look to it.

Dunno if that helps.

RBY era I don't really count. I usually take the G/S era as my cutting off point for what can be considered the classic style, since that's when I feel the game really came into being, especially art/gameplay wise. The transition from G/S to now is far less intense and has kept most of what set it apart.

Sugimori style personified ponies? Very relevant to my interests!
