HEY this is what happened in Baltic countries..Baltic chain..
ALL the people gathered on the streets through 3 countries like this...no one was at home
all people were on the streets and they fighted against russia
this is how we gained freedom
being ONE.
fighting together.
I guess i was about 1 year old when this happened or something
but it still is a big part of me and my nation
So thanks for this picture
that reminds me a lot
its so good !

kevissimo In reply to iamkatia [2005-03-19 22:57:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.....the conference I'm taking the Stations to is actually using this on the postcards...

This was when I was in Uganda. Early morning, probably around 6:30. It was the medical team who was just about to go in and treat about 2,000 people and they were praying.

I actually don't use photoshop for any of the work. This is oilcolor on the prints themselves. All the work is done this way. This was the simplest use of it. Each one then is like an original painting. I call them "oilgraphs."

Thanks again for all of that....

i just re-read what you wrote about it being the
medical team preparing to help and
first praying.. i have a huge lump
in my throat now... the image is
100 times more powerful than before.
how fortunate your eyes and soul are to
have been there. thank you so much for sharing, kevin.

girldisrupted [2004-09-27 07:31:35 +0000 UTC]

your work has such a unique quality to it.. you are definitely one of a kind here at DA.
looking at your gallery this one stood out from the rest of the pictures because it was slightly different to everything else you've done. i love the angle here..and the story that the photo tells.. it has such a sense of positivity to it.. and of hope.
it seems that you have travelled quite a bit and that has offered you incredible opportunities artistically.. and you have obviously made the most of that...
and africa (i think) offers so much to the artist.

Thank you for sharing all of that....that means alot to me...
Africa is such a special place...and these people were just the most giving and selfless people I have met...In less than a half hour they were off to treat over 3,000 patients at a clinic....It was a gift to be there...

Was this piece done with liquid light? Or was it some other sort of medium?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kevissimo In reply to distasty [2004-07-29 09:23:19 +0000 UTC]

It's actually traditional prints montaged onto canvas and overapplied with oil colors...
though I do have a bottle of liquid light that's been sitting in my fridge for about 15 years....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

distasty In reply to kevissimo [2004-07-30 05:34:22 +0000 UTC]

I see.
It looked sort of like liquid light becasue of the streaks/distortion through the photo... Which interested me because the figures in the picture had decent looking contrast; something that's really hard to get with liquid light and it's tendency to give you different variations of gray rather than attractive blacks (as seen in your picture ).
But I ramble....
Thank you very much for your reply.

shatterdrose [2004-05-31 02:42:55 +0000 UTC]

What I love here Is the double meaning. It's as If you captured two Images, and two seperate, yet very singular Ideas Into one piece.

The concept of two people holding hands makes them as one, their energies and "karmas" flow Into one another (If you ever want to know more about what I mean, just note me) creating a special bond between two people. This bonds connects them as one.

Then at the same time, In the distance, you see more people holding hands, also connecting with another person on a Intimate level. Yet, at seeing so many people holding hands, they're connecting and uniting as a people. Those same bonds that held two single people together are now stretching out, connecting to the next, and the next, and the next. Even though they might not be holding hands, they are brothers of someone elses brother, therefore making them a brother as well.
