Description
If I worked on this anymore I would be going down a rabbit hole that I wouldn't find my way out of.For what it's worth this is a first for a variety of reasons. With most of the oilgraphs the image is primarily a photo...this is primarily a painting and the only photographic image is the figure. As I noted before in some of the lead up images I felt way out of my element and saw my limitations. It may not be done....but it's done for now. Perhaps when I'm better at this sort of thing I'll return to it. But for now this is her.
Also...there is a want to do a piece and then there is a need to do a piece
This is the latter...
The model is Caylee. The images earlier in the stream are from the same shoot
mixed media photograph, blood and oil on wooden panel 24x48

I would like to see this piece-enlarged-and or scanned. A painting is REALLY different in person than many other art forms are. I might crit on the use of "cool" tones to create more a 3D effect on her skin and give more contrast to the piece overall, as well as anatomy-forshortening of the leg[the one tucked underneath her] & her shoulder-with her arm reaching out. Those are drawing errors and there's nothing more difficult then the human body to capture. But, I don't feel competent to give you, any pointers on your use of paint but I would've "cropped" the image, at about the end of her leg. If you're familiar with a painting called "Christina's World" by andrew wyeth, this has many of the same of the same qualities but done in a "firey-palette" as opposed to the "cold[cool] palatte Wyeth used...check it out, I think it's kinda freaky how similiar the 2 pieces are but very different.-maybe "great minds" think alike...Props for your ambition-and Yes, Keep with the paint-I love the ideas you're working with!
ps-Paint IS Hard-it takes years, but keep going!

Thanks so much for taking the time to share that...I very much appreciate it. Oh, I am very aware of Christina's World and I realized after this piece was done that in a way that painting was speaking to me. So the comparison is naturally is an honor. Nothing can touch the mastery of that work in my mind....
Though I have to say it is interesting that you mention drawing errors in the figure....because it is the one element that isn't drawn. It's a photo. Strangely enough I just made a video of it's making....

Thank you again.....deeply appreciated

I should define and clarify my use of the term, "Drawing" ,
Kevin. When I refer to drawing, I'm refering to "any mark" made by the hand of the artist-on the picture plane, be it in pencil, paint, or scraping-[scuffling]. It appeared in the image as if, perhaps, you may have used the photograph as a base for further applications of paint on the surface. In which instance, unless the figure "modeling" is taken into consideration, one tends to lose the subtities of "shading" and "shadow" of the orginal photograph, thereby, creating a distortion of the original photographic image. I am working on similiar lines myself, in the synthesis series-[ the fisrt syn:[link] and The Second Syn[[link] ] Perhaps I am off base in my assessment that you have used paint over the figure, or to enhance the figure? I 'd have to see the piece in person or with a painting, the best digital representation is via, cruise scan, if one can afford it:} They are super expensive but, pick-up every detail. Yes, Christina's World is a masterpiece and most definitely, your piece evoked, thoughts of that work in my own mind. Blessings, M

I ask because he mentions the borderlands, it's this place between the "real" world and the world of magic. In it you can travel faster or slower because time has no hold on it. He's a fantastic writer if you're into well written fantasy with believable characters.

absolutely brilliant tho the next time i think you ought to paint the figure too, without fears of inaccuracy.

The background I especially love, though the pose of the model is also quite well done. All around an amazing piece.

You are a painter and you have this gift for capturing the elements (for lack of a better word.) The way it's the earth, the sea, the air, fire and most especially, the light. I'm also intrigued by the small figures in the background. I love the light, the pose and definition in her arms, neck..etc. I feel she's not done somehow though. But there's a hint of delicacy and strength. I don't know what that means of course. I feel like there's more you might do 'here' (wherever that is) in other works. Cheers.

A beautiful pic.
You are very good at painting, even if you don't think you are.
It reminds me of an antique, of one of the masters...the colours and the style are sumptuous.

This is absolutely classic. At first glance, it gave me some sort of biblical-feeling. Perhaps I've just read Memnoch the Devil one time too many..
In any event, I love the detail and ... well, everything. Magnifique!

From what I can see in the other shots, there are some details that are missing in this one. A pity; this is a very impressive image, with a very strong mood and atmosphere. I might have liked the figure to me a little smaller so that it would give emphasis in the landscape, but it's balanced as it is anyhow.

Thank you....it's hard getting all the details in a web image. Especially with painting. It's never all there. I might give it some more work to bring them out....
