Description
And now for the digging machine that John Henry faces in his doomed struggle to fight technology. I originally thought about making it this literally massive machine for contrast, but that just didn't make sense to me considering that the machine would have to physically move into the mountain to continue digging. So I went with something that was intimidating in the sense that it relentlessly digs without pause, save for the second or two it takes reset the steam-powered digging claw. I wanted to play up the contrast of the big-hearted John versus the soulless machine that threatened to replace hardworking people. Thus, I also wanted the machine to be automated to focus on the man vs. machine theme. If it were in a movie, the sounds of the machine would be disturbingly lifeless and consistant in opposition to John's more organic and rhythmic movements, which would slowly gain in in force and speed. This would help build towards a rewarding climax when John does finally win, and we're left with contrasting silence as he collapses and dies of exhaustion.

I am developing a free pen&aper roleplaying game, working title "the world of jules verne", in a world (some may call it "steampunk") full of technological wonders, somewhat like in the game arcanum (but without the magic). Right now, I am searching for artwork which I could use for the game, and this would be perfect. do you mind if I use it? Even if you do, please tell me!! Thanks a million, coco
