Description My converted defiler was stalking about my work area, so I decided to make an illustration around her. For those of you unfamiliar with them. they are from the Warhammer 40k world. The defiler is a daemonically possessed war machine with vaguely humanoid torso mounted on a crablike body, armed with a variety weaponry and a big freaking cannon to blow stuffs up and generally make peoples' days unpleasant. My defilerer's upper body has been modified with the giant skull on the front and the hungry mouth on the lower body, making it less humanoid and more bestial in appearence, which pleases me greatly. I consider her to be the centerpiece of my army.

Anywho, enough background stuffs. I am really pleased with the drawing, but I am unsure of what direction to take it next. I really like the line art version it is in now, though it could use a lot of touching up, but I could also color it, which would make for an awesomely epic looking piece of art. Oh, conflicted, perhaps I will do both, we shall see!

She also deserves a name, something mean and scary sounding and approriate for her appearence. I have yet to come up with anything suitable yet, so if you have any suggestions, please let me know.

My model lacks the tenticles exhibited on the one side (havoc launcher instead) but other than that it is true to the model. The defiler is one of my favorite models being, massive, intimidating, and having a lot of character and the concept allows for a lot of innovation and variation on the design. I personally find the concept of two defilers looking the same to be offensive because I refuse to belive that two hell forged and daemon possessed war machines would ever look the same.

The skull is from the old Games Workshop game called Man O War, which was a naval combat game. The large skull resting over the battlecannon is the prow of the the Dark Elf Black Ark, a classic old bit for conversions. The skull itself is about two inches long and a large chunk of metal. The foward pointing horns were sculpted using green stuff and another skull with curling ridged horns was placed on top of the black ark skull. While not visible in the image, the barrel of the cannon was replaced with a pillar of skulls with defiler demon head muzzle placed on the end of it. The metal cannon barrel, black ark skull, and scupting putty make it a little heavy towards the front of the torso.

The toothy mouth on the front of the carrage are also sculpted onto the model, though with many fewer teeth and not quite as impressive looking. The upper torso however is mounted in the middle of the carrage instead of the front. This reduces the negative space on the model, making it look much more sold and massive looking. With that, and the removal of the head from the top of the torso, it doesn't look so much like a metal centaur thing, and much more bestial in appearance.

Wow it sounds really good, is there any chance I could c a picture of it? I agree with you point that two defilers shouldn’t look the same. Personally I have a bloodthirster in my army instead, I thought of getting a defiler but I already had my bloodthirster when they first came out and didn’t have the cash I also think that no spawn of chaos should look the same which makes it fun to try to make my army that way (lots of converting)
