Just a shorter barrel and a color change, along with another name. Supposily full-automatic.

That gun is such a beauty, If I was of the age to own a gun the first semi auto rifle I'd get other then an AK would be the Fal.

tho I would rather have a shorter barrel to make it less cumbersome.

I do love the FN FAL, and i would prefer a long barrel version, since you might need it for sharpshooting.

In .308/7.62 NATO, I would prefer the FN-FAL as a battle rifle. Have fired the M-14, G-3, AK, etc, but the FAL is my favorite. Just personal preference. Look at photos from Libya..there are FAL's being used, among the AK's and G-3's.

Thank You, me too. The Libyan fighters are hoping for the "no-fly zone." Hopefully they can hold on a little longer.

Heh, awesome. My dad used the Canadian variant of this when he served the artillery back in the '80s. He said it kicked like a mule and weighed a million pounds, but it would sure as hell do its job.

What a fabulous weapon! Definitely the best self-loading battle rifle used by NATO during the Cold War! It's just got such a rugged design, and it really harnesses the power of the 7.62 NATO round.

Excellent work on the accurate design, and also on the details on the specs!

kfirpanther3 In reply to GangsterLovin [2010-05-18 06:06:03 +0000 UTC]

which do you prefer, fn fal or m14?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GangsterLovin In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-19 04:21:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh geez, you just had to ask??XD

Hm, to be honest, I'd have to choose the FAL.=/ I don't mean to sound unpatriotic, I love both those weapons alot, they were nicely-made, sturdy battle rifles. But once you think about it, the FAL was quite superior to the M14, and that shows by looking all the countries that adopted it throughout the second half of the 20th century!

Now that I think about it, that really is a hard question. Like I said, I love both those rifles, they're both similar in that they use the 7.62 NATO round, hold 20 rounds, and of course, are hard to control on full-auto (from the videos I've seen, the M14 seemed easier to handle, but it was most likely how the shooter was able to handle the recoil). The cyclic rate on FAL is a little lower than the M14, but I heard that because of the FAL's design, it's like taming a wild beast on full-auto.

But still, you really wouldn't want to use full-auto on a 7.62x51mm battle rifle. Anyway, another thing I like about the FAL is that it doesn't have that angle in the wrist of the stock that the M14 does. I would think that because of this, the FAL would have less muzzle climb, but I could be wrong. Well, either way, I heard the FAL was also a superior design.

Alright, enough about me, what about you? Which do you prefer and why?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kfirpanther3 In reply to GangsterLovin [2010-05-19 10:39:36 +0000 UTC]

i prefer both as well. both are good guns. in full or semi. but what i love about the m14 is that its based on an already successful design, m1 garand. both done well, so i say both.

FN FAL has many names. but, 'The rifle for the free world' is the best.
Indonesian soldiers called FN-FAL 'senapan celeng'.

kfirpanther3 In reply to IndonesianAWL [2010-05-22 14:38:29 +0000 UTC]

we dont have names for FN FAL but we call m16 rifles/AR-15 "Armalite" and M4/CAR-15 carbines "Baby armalite".

IndonesianAWL In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-22 15:01:15 +0000 UTC]

Why M4 is called baby armalite?

Btw, senapan celeng means: hunter rifle. FN FAL usually used by Indonesian forces as hunting and sport rifle, he he...

From Wiki
"Baby Armalite — the short barrel version of the M16A1 known as the CAR-15 and similar to the current M4 carbine. First made by Elisco under Colt license in the late seventies. Widely used in the Philippine Government, Military and Police." M4 is likely classified as a "Baby Armalite"

But now, I hear that M4 will a fear weapon if used with Mk318 bullet by USMC. Maybe Baby Armalite name is not correct with M4 USMC version..
