Description
This is just another one of the many graphite pieces that I have made that was inspired largely by Stephen Gammel. It depicts a feather floating in the air with some nasty ink-like substance dripping and splattering on a blank white background.Related content

Wow, amazing job! Gammel himself couldn't have done it better!

What does he use in the illustrations for scary stories to tell in the dark?
is it graphite or ebony or something or is it paint?

I believe there is at least one place where paint is used, but I believe the vast majority of it is some sort of graphite or possibly something similar like charcoal.

Sure looks like it, doesn't it? At least, charcoal and graphite are what worked best for me when I tried imitations, especially with a kneaded eraser for the backgrounds. It's funny, because I downloaded a photo of him with a canvas under has hand, and one could swear that it's wet with India ink or something, but the only weapons visible at the crime scene are pencils of some sort.
