"Daddy, stop!" Kiara cried, darting in front of her new friend, "Kovu didn't do anything!"

Simba growled, his amber eyes narrowing as he stared at the chocolate-furred cub hiding cowering behind his daughter. Scraggaly though he may have looked, Simba couldn't help but see the cub's alarming resemblance to his dead uncle, Scar. Still....

"Simba, look at him." He heard Nala whisper at his side, "The poor thing doesn't look like he could hurt a fly, much less Kiara." She smiled at the cub--Kovu--earning a squeak from in return. "Where is your mother, dear?" She asked, leaning forward so that she was eye level with him.

A bitter look crossed the cub's face, replacing his previous fear. "Doesn't matter." He muttered, staring at his paws, "she won't come looking for me."

And so Kovu was invited to stay in the Pridelands.

With Kopa as the chosen one, why would Zira bother keeping tabs on Kovu?
