Description
The Shogunate was known for it's strict adherence to warrior's honour and martial code. Their different clans presented a united front towards outward enemies, but infighting was common and, while limited, their warring was always a bloody affair, as most of their soldiers not only carried rifles, but close combat weapons, like spears or swords, as well.
Some clans bought or built armored cars or used armored trains in their formations, but the crafty Kuribayashi were the first to build a tank on their own, using it for devastating effect and the ST-10 vehicle was credited for the raise of the clan to a major status before the Shogunate central government intervened.
The ST-10 has a unique history, as it is the fruit of many trade missions to a myriad of countries, secret pacts and clever diplomacy. Through allying with the Imperium, but also being friendly with the Khanate and El Moroviana, the Kuribayashi gained enough knowledge and resources to build and, more importantly, use these tanks.
Known simply as the KT-1 (Kuribayashi Tank Number One), the vehicle never got any real name, though some called it the Kaede, after the founder of the clan. But each vehicle had their own unique name and often a dedicated Haiku attached to it.
Appearing similar to many vehicles of the time, this tank had huge tracks and a rough romboid shape, with guns and armor attached. Despite this, it proved to be very adept of navigating difficult terrain, though the engine was highly unreliable at first, until replaced by a diesel motor.
Though armored with less armor than many contemporary vehicles, it was by far enough, as their were not really any anti-armor weapons in the Shogunate. Up-armored later on, as some enemies learned how to defeat them with field guns or up-scaled rifles.
With a short-barrelled 150mm mortar mounted in the front, the tank could lay devastating, albeit short-ranged and not that accurate fire onto enemy positions. Flechette and high-explosive rounds were carried, later variants also made use of combustion warheads.
The small turret housed a 15mm rifle, equipped with armor-piercing and explosive rounds, mainly to be used against enemy armored cars, but later against Onihashi FT-type tanks as well.
Three machine guns, one in the turret and one on each hull side, were also fitted, easily mowing down enemy infantry and horsemen. Used in conjunction with infantry or armored cars, a line of KT-1 tanks could make enemy infantry flee in sheer terror.
KT-1 tanks were later incorprated into the Shogunate's Army and was renamed ST-10.
