Description

Based on the Rukizuki-class destroyer, the modern Niri'un was specially modified with new engines for longer range at the expense of speed and a modern sensor and armament suite to better defend against enemy air-superiority.

Built by Kuribayashi, Himikoseito and central gouvernment yards, Niri'un-class destroyers were armed with 127mm dualpurpose guns, four automatic 76mm weapons, as well as 30mm mounts. Radar guidance was available and many allied flyers learned to respect these destroyers. Adding ten torpedo tubes to the design, these boats packed an anti-ship wallop few could match.

Anti-submarine weaponry was dreadfully weak, limited to depth-charges only.
