Description
The least powerful of the three great clans, the Himikoseito, excel in army operations, having access only to two major ports. Since their holdings were spread to many smaller islands, they needed ships to ferry troops around and protect these. The two Daibozuko troop cruisers were amongst the largest ever build by their shipyard and definitely tailored to their needs.
While they are heavily armored, the Daibozuko-class cannot stand up against a battleship, protection is more akin to a battlecruiser. At the same time, they are not very fast, only doing 29 knots at full speed. Their nine 310mm guns are located in three turrets on the front, leaving the reat unprotected by heavy guns. Also, since the clan does not have access to advanced medium anti-air artillery, they only use locally-produced, hand loaded und unprotected 76mm weapons. Heavy AA and light machine weapons are plentyful, though.
Interesting are their large transport space and hangar rooms and their configurable rear deck. These cruisers could transport troops and their landing craft, miniature submarines, floatplanes, mines and whatever they could fit in, including thousands of refugees after the eruption of an undersea volcano, almost swallowing one of their islands.
During the war, both cruisers operated together, at first partaking in amphibious operations and shelling enemy positions. Later, they were essential to supplying the new islands with trops and vehicles. Always apparent was their lack of decent AAA and the second vessel, Daibushi, was sunk by aircraft from allied carrier forces. Daibozuko was up-gunned and paired with the battleship Toranaga, but she never played an essential role in a decisive battle. She was never idle, though, defending the island holdings from probing attacks and even a Khanate invasion attempt.
