Description
a mix between traditional samurai armor and the modern military equipments we have today. now, i know modern soldiers would never use a katana as a standard issue weapon,
but come on.... look at it! looks friggin badass

US Marines technically have their sword/saber. And the Gurkha have their khukri knife.

very eye catching...perhaps they'd use the Katana rather like an Officer's dress sword like on parade or ceremonial occasions - or during officer commission ceremoniesΒ

Ask a Japanese soldier if you're right, if Japan ever re-arms.
AΒ GuntΕΒ (It's a frigin' katana for a soldier instead of a samurai) made from a single piece of steel (considered inferior to traditional blades for this (they really were weaker, even though better results can be had withΒ a single ingot of modern steel than could ever hope to be reached with the traditional metal used to forage the weapon)), was standard issue to all Japanese officers (including NCO's) in WWII.
So... this could be one possible near-future for the Japanese military.

I'd imagine it'd be a good intermediate melee weapon when the pistol is too slow for the draw, but the enemy is too far away for the knife.
