As a child, Kale got whatever he wanted. His life was just about perfect, nothing to complain about. He had a younger sister who he adored very much. He loved her very much and cherished her more than what ordinary siblings would have because she was sick. He can't recall what she had but he remembered that she ended up dying because there was no treatment. After that,his parents began to fight because of the stress and strain the death had put on them. There was nobody to blame and Kale knew this, but no matter how hard he tried to convey that, his parents couldn't understand. They felt as though they had done something wrong. This wasn't suppose to happen. My child . . .There must have been something I could have done. Maybe it wasn't my fault. It couldn't have been . . . He constantly heard them blaming each other and eventually they divorced a year later.
Kale was about 7 at the time. It was uncomfortable but he understood. Mommy and daddy can't stay together anymore. We don't want you to see us fighting. You can still see daddy but . . . He understood it was for his sake and went with it. What other choice did he have? He still loved his parents very much but he wasn't as happy as he used to be. Eventually his mother got married and he had a step father. Kale didn't like him very much so he avoided him but he didn't want to upset his mother, who seemed to still have a hard time adjusting. His step father got abnormally close to Kale and ended up taking advantage of him one night while his mom was sleeping. Unable to say anything or tell anybody, it became a routine thing.
Once Kale entered middle school, he changed completely. He was disturbed, traumatized by all of the things he had to endure. He wondered why all of this was happening to him. Aren't I a good person? I did everything I was suppose to. I didn't cry or complain when all of those bad things happened. I don't understand. I...I don't understand . . . His mother started to notice his detached personality and sent him to a psychiatrist. He didn't want to open up to some random person who probably didn't care about his life. Why wouldn't his mom ask him what's wrong, not that he'd tell her.
He began to repress his memories of everything bad that had happened to him, as it was taking a toll on his mental and physical health. He did it for himself and his mother since she was also worried but distant, scarred from his sister's death.
The second year of middle school, Kale met somebody who would make everything better. He cozied up to his first lover, making sure that they were "the one". Of course, being young and all that stuff, it didn't last too long. Right before high school, he had found out that his lover had been cheating on him with somebody else. Somebody that his lover held much closer. They had been together for a while and Kale deemed him as somebody trustful and loving. He had some clues before but he shook off any evidence-- denial. Confronting his "lover", they told him that he was extremely needy and sensitive. I felt bad for you. I pitied you. But you were so attached and before I knew it we were in too deep and there was no way I could have gotten myself out of it. I kept it a secret from my girlfriend for so long already and I can't keep it up anymore . . .They comforted him for so long but it was depressing. They cared for Kale because he was a good lover...but in the end the sex was good but that was all that he was really used for.
DISTRAUGHT, FURIOUS AND UPSET AT THE WORLD, Kale snapped. He had been good long enough. He put everybody he loved first, but obviously that wasn't working too well.
He blamed her. His "lover"s close one. He followed her home and choked her. She was okay but told the school and got him expelled. Kale felt as though he couldn't win in this life so he tried to kill himself. Luckily his mother caught him just in time. After being discharged from the hospital, Kale spent the rest of the school year at home having to be home-schooled since he had to repeat the 8th grade and once high school came around, she sent him to Yakkaina to hopefully bring back the son she used to know.
