History: Sakumi had always been a very patient and delicate child. He constantly tried to impress his parents by studying and practicing hard—endeavors also motivated to prove himself against his brother, who was a born natural at tea brewing and conducted his tea ceremony beautifully. He was the perfect child. Sakumi wanted to follow in his brother’s steps, yet, at the same time, had held an unspoken longing to excel, and even surpass his brother. Always in his shadow, their parents had not even considered the idea that Sakumi would ever live up to his brother. And not only they, but, caught up by the family’s first born’s success, it seemed everyone ignored Sakumi’s efforts to learn, already thinking it futile.
When the time finally came, however, everyone was there to watch—including his brother. Filled with anxiety, Sakumi repeated to himself over and over that this was what he had been preparing for—all the hard work and efforts, all the waiting and watching put in for this moment. The moment came and passed in quiet, bittersweet beauty. He executed his ceremony with precision and grace—just as he knew he would. Expressions of awe fell on his parents and relatives faces, though his brother had already expected Sakumi’s hard work to pay off.
Calling for his essence, Shio had successfully appeared before him in a slight pink smoke. However, during their first chats, it became clear that Sakumi’s withdrawn nature and Shio’s constant low-tolerance mood clashed. Frustrated and already convinced that he was a failure, Sakumi shut himself in; all the hard work gone to waste. After a few days, Shio let go of his temper and came to comfort him, promising to try to get along, unable to withstand Sakumi’s crying. Slowly after, the two began to open up to each other, just as the cherry blossom blooms in Sakurayu tea.
