Description
Astro's the only boy (or robot, in this case) who's got two fathers, both scientists.I recently just started to LOVE drawing Dr. Tenma. I love the way Tezuka designed his characters.
Astro just finished school and Elefun, who had a day off, went to pick him up. It was one of the rare days that Tenma was working at the Ministry of Science (during this point in my stories, Tenma only worked "undercover" for the Ministry because a lot of people were still worried that he would lose his mind again). So Elefun gave Astro a piggy back ride to the Ministry, and just as Tenma was finishing his work, Astro greeted him in his cheerful manner.
I used my markers for this, though the scanner took most of the beauty and colors out of it. Man, that sucks.
My dad liked the fact that Tenma was wearing a purple vest. I think purple suits him for some reason.
This was the first picture I decided to try putting simple highlights in the hair and on Astro's boots. Turned out okay, I guess.
Big feet. Big eyes. Yeah, you should know me by now! Ha ha!
Saw the movie. Loved it, although I didn't like Tenma's design, nor the voice. Nicholas Cage.... a definite NO-NO. BAD!!! I wanted Tenma's voice to be deeper! Not to mention Nicholas Cage totally sucked acting at the greiving part, where Tenma was kneeling down over the place where Tobio disappeared... Though it was sad, it didn't feel sad enough. It felt sadder when Tenma called Elefun later on to say that Astro just wasn't Toby.
Tobio was... what's the word... dissintegrated? Or just got sucked into the robot? Different death, not the car crash. But even though a car accident is more gruesome, I thought that getting blown to oblivion by a rampaging robot was even WORSE. Who would want to see their kid get killed like THAT????
Not to mention they should have given Dr. Elefun a bigger role in the movie.
Anyway, enjoy the pic!

Yeah, more hype would've helped but I heard it was number one in China. Not to mention is well received in Canada and Australia. This movie also has high DVD possibilites

I sure hope so. I know there were a bunch of mixed feelings in Japan. A lot of them were not warmed up to having people from another country direct a movie based on their most reknown anime character.

So I've heard. Quite frankly, after Godzilla, Speed Racer, and Dragonball, I can't really say I blame them. But is from Japan and he says he liked it so who knows? Maybe it'll turn around on DVD there

My guess was that Toby got vaporized...but I agree that Tenma wasn't sad enough at his son's horrible demise
aside from that, I found the movie to be touching and beautiful

Actually, you're right! He did get vaporized! How'd you guess that?

because there was an explosion and he disappeared XD
**poof!!**
I take that as vaporization XD

cute
I also saw the movie, it was cute. My brother was wondering how, during the robot battle dome part, Astro couldn't fly out because of the force feild, but the freedom fighter bots got tossed out mintues later. Maybe it was for select robots or something. What do u think?

Lol I was wondering the same thing too! I guess the select robots thing would probably be the best bet.

Your right about Nicholas Cage. He was good but he didn't make it where it was a tearjerker in that scene. The sadest parts were when Tenma got the blue core out and where Astro died. But he came back.
You did an awesome job with this pic. Keep up the good work.

Yeah I thought it was quite an unusual storyline as well. Perhaps they wanted to act on a bigger part with the Peacekeeper though and that's why they had Toby die that way. It was sad though, but I agree with you about Nicholas Cage. Although he was good, he could have greived Toby's death better, but it was sad the way he basically disowned Toby (Astro.)
Very adorable and beautiful picture :3

Thank you very much.
I guess that would make sense, with the peacekeeper and all. The movie was still good, and I understand that after the comics and three TV shows, they'd need to change things, not to mention cram everything into something almost two hours. But there were still things that were slightly disappointing. (Mr. Mustachio should have had a bigger role too, although it was neat seeing him in there anyway! )

Thank you, although it looks way better just on paper. My scanner sucks big time.
Well, the movie was still good, especially for something that was based on a big comic series and three TV shows. I mean, they can't fit everything into two hours or so, and they did have to change things around a bit so that there is a change, but yeah, for someone who really loves Astro Boy, there were a bunch of things that seemed out of place or just plain empty.

Technically, Dr. O'Shay (Dr. Elefun in the 2003 series) is Astro's surrogate father, so he'd really be like a stepfather.
