Elefun chuckled and looked at him. “Do you remember when you first met him, Tenma?” he said with a grin.

Tenma looked at him over his sunglasses and grinned, just as the others looked at him. “Met who?” Astro asked curiously.

Tenma looked at him across the aisle. “Cornelius Robinson,” he replied with a smile. “He came to visit the Ministry of Science with his parents when he was fifteen.” He looked down at his book again. “He was already out of college at that age.”

“Whoa! He was already working as an inventor by the age of fifteen?”

“As a profession since he was fourteen, actually. He’s a real child prodigy if I ever did see one. He came to the Ministry to demonstrate one of his inventions and show case his robot, C.A.R.L.”

“Was he better than you were?”

Tenma smiled at him. “As a scientist, he had some work to do,” he replied. “That’s why Cornelius hardly creates any robots at all. He’s more along the lines of a professional inventor. He’s much more knowledgeable in that area of creativity than I am. That’s why I stick with creating robots and gadgets that will aid them.”

“How old were you when you met him, Doctor?”

Tenma put on a thoughtful face. “Well, I was just beginning my career as a scientist at the Ministry,” he said. “So I must have been around the age of… oh, I’d say perhaps twenty-one, if not twenty-two.”

“So you’re older than him?”

“By approximately six to seven years, yes. Cornelius is quite a magnificent man. A real model for young inventors and even scientists.”

There are about six different people speaking here, including Tenma. I just didn't want to give away who XD Save Elefun and Astro.

I had to, I'm sorry. It's from the Astro Boy-MTR crossover, Tests of Time I made a poster for a while back. I had written a background story for Tenma because his character just fascinates me to no end. Basically, when Tenma was just beginning his career at the Ministry of Science after a year or two of being Ochanomizu/Elefun's asistant, Cornelius came to showcase Carl. Tenma, not being a big people person (has to do with BG) was reluctant to get to know him, but Cornelius was enthralled in meeting the young mind who wrote textbooks about the emotional robotic heart. After finding similarities between the two of them, including each of them sharing a gloomy past, Tenma and Cornelius became friends and stayed in contact for several years via letter and email.

When Tenma lost his son and went underground after abandoning Astro, he ceased communications with Cornelius. Once the whole ordeal was through, which was about five to ten years afterwards, and once Astro and Elefun had rebuilt a bond with him, Tenma resumed his contacting with Cornelius. He never told Astro or his family that he was friends with The Father of the Future, therefore in the crossover, when they finally met, Astro and his family, save Elefun, of course, were utterly shocked to know that the two of them had met nearly thrity-forty years earlier, and were in fact dear friends.

Yus, Tenma lost his mind, as he did in the comics and the 3 cartoons series. But I figured Cornelius wouldn't be the kind of guy to abandon a friend just like that. So he simply waited until Tenma was ready to contact him again.

Anyway, there's a tidbit for you. I had to draw these two again because gosh, Tenma.... I freakin love that character, even if he went insane XD
