Description
Most of my characters have several clear drawings and stories to give references, but because Kes is so new and kind of a work in development I thought I'd give her a quick reference (especially because most of her images have her shapeshifted in a speedpaint or color challenge). Hopefully this will help cement her a bit...although everything is really vague, casual, and underdeveloped...sorry xD I just wanted to get it quickly out of my head and on paper. In short, the image includes Kyja, Kes's human form, and her main other form (after trying it out, I decided on the snowy owl over the kestrel...although I'll probably keep drawing both ).

BASICS :

Name: Kes
Nicknames: Kessie, Kestrel
Age: Around 60-70, appears late 20s when she stopped aging
Species: Shapeshifter | Druid (born human)
Gender: Female for most forms including human, although she does appear male in some
Height: 5'8
Physical: Thin and unmuscular, fairly weak physically
Eye Color: Bright yellow-green
Hair: Light grey, black barring
Dress: Often lighter than what would normally be required for a human. Prefers large capes or tunics, and mostly seen with her hood up.

Magic: Asides from Shapeshifting, her abilities generally relate around healing. She also has a strong resistance to cold, and the ability to communicate telepathically (although fairly weak, and generally only used on animals).
Specialization: She sees herself as a protector of nature, often focusing her magical abilities solely around healing animals. She has an especial fondness for small animals, although occasionally reaches out to larger ones in needs. She doesn't exactly enjoy the company of humans, and outside of extreme and rare circumstances, will not come to their aid. Kes has nearly no offensive abilities, and when confronted will often just flee or rely on Kyja for protection.
Level of Expertise: Fairly experienced with healing and shapeshifting to forms she has been before. Finds it difficult and sometimes impossible to shapeshift into new forms without a great deal of time and effort, and struggles with magic outside her routine (ie healing humans). It is unknown if she has the potential to grow her magical abilities.
Personality/Attitude: Friendly and loving to the critters she protects and watches over, borderline over-possessive and dangerous to those who threaten any harm. She generally dislikes humans and most of their activities, seemingly cold and aloof, if not downright bizarre. She cares little about what humans think, and is usually seen as a disruptive force as her beliefs and actions (especially around animals) often contradicts societal norms.
Dwelling Place/Current Home: Generally a wanderer, occasionally may make home in an area for a season or two if she feels her presence is needed for that time. Usually away from human settlements.
History: Was born and raised as a regular human. During college she became increasingly radical, and eventually cutting contact from her family entirely. There was rumours she joined a cult up north, and some that she became a crazy naked hippy who apprenticed under some crazy old dude who thought he could commune with nature. What can I say - the 60s were an interesting time. Most assumed she died (my guess from the whole naked snow thing...(, and after a while of not ageing and slow physical changes, no one in their right would connect her with her former self.
While the guy was completely nuts, a spirit took pity on the small group due to their good intentions and genuine love of nature. The spirit taught them some simple magic, including some shapeshifting and protection against the cold in order not to freeze their dumb hippy asses off. A few picked up healing magic, including Kes - devoting their lives to the betterment of nature.
Kes bonded with Kyja over her dual nature and innate ability to bond with creatures, eventually leading the Tokota to be her familiar.
Weapons: Staff (likes to hit people over the head with it, also good for lighting things - theoretically it's suppose to help her focus her magic, but she's crap at any offensive magic, and it's fairly useless for healing magic)
Trinkets/Favored Items: Kes isn't that big on keeping personal things. Occasionally she'll embed small trinkets like stones or small bones with magic to aid her with her healing (leaving them a bright glowing yellow-green, the colour of her magic). However she's fairly forgetful and these items generally get left around and forgotten about (even her staff will get lost for weeks at a time). Most of her trinkets are assumed temporary, although she'll occasionally use them for decoration.

Tokota(s):

Kyja is her only Tokota, although she may temporarily look after others - especially if they are escaping abuse or in dire need.
Pet(s):

Kyja has a stoat companion.

Common Forms:
All forms carry the same markings as a sightly-grey female snowy owl (with the exception of her kestrel form which as her first shapeshift carries the normal male kestrel markings). They are all also scaled around human size, as she's is unable to shift much larger or smaller than that.
