Description With the coming of Spring comes warmer weather, clear blue skies and the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities which for Stuart Davenport means golf.  But much to his chagrin, Peter Griffin (after much whining and begging and whinging and pleading) manages to wangle an invitation for he and his wife, Lois, to accompany Stu and his lady friend Rhonda Roykirk for an 18-hole round at Stuart's country club golf course.  And, just as Stuart had feared, Peter manages to stall things at the start of playing the back nine with a "what if" question as Rhonda fumes and Lois expresses her exasperation. I can well imagine.  I mean, a pickup truck vs. 100 tons of freight train.  Definitely no contest.

My friend said that they joked about it all night long when they were on shift until the humor ran away.

That's for sure.  Some of the guys I use to serve with in the National Guard were Vietnam vets who could only handle the horrors they'd experienced by being soused.

I grew less and less of a drinker when I got married, then a father twice over.  Now I restrict my indulgence to one glass of mead on Saturday nights.

Mead, eh?  I didn't know they still made honey beer.  That sounds like something I might like to try.  In the meantime, kudos to you for being a responsible husband and father.

Thank you.  It's one of the few pleasures I'm left with right now.  And mead is made from fermented honey, like wine is made from fermented grapes, though mead can be made at home easier than wine.

Being totally ignorant of golf rules I cannot appreciate the humour of the scene, but the drawing is nice and Rhonda's pissed off expression is lovely.

Thank you kindly.  I'm glad you like the way I can do facial expressions on cartoon ladies.  The main point here is that Peter is holding up the game with his stupid question.  In golf, you never engage in idle chit-chat while on the tee, especially when there are other people waiting to tee off.  As for the drawing itself, I just had to put in as much detail as possible in order to grab everybody's attention.  Thanks for your comment.

Ah, you mean whiffle balls.  Well, that's not quite what I had in mind.  Nearly every golf course has these large, golf ball-looking markers for the tee-off point at each par.  Thanks for your comment.

paws4thot In reply to ??? [2018-05-08 10:22:16 +0000 UTC]

I'm more worried about how close Lois and Stuart are standing to someone who's addressing the ball than about Peter's question.

(the correct answer is that if the ball stops moving out of bounds Peter needs to take a second drive on 3 strokes for the hole but if it doesn't then yes the drinks are on Peter).

kiff57krocker In reply to paws4thot [2018-05-08 16:29:52 +0000 UTC]

Not to worry: I'm certain both Stuart and Lois would clear the way before Peter raises his club prior to addressing the ball.  And that is also an interesting rule about golf balls out of bounds.  Also, as I understand it, you're not supposed to engage in idle chit-chat on the tee in the first place.  Thanks for your comment.

paws4thot In reply to kiff57krocker [2018-05-10 14:26:01 +0000 UTC]

I see your point; I was thinking that Peter is quite capable of starting his back swing without checking where the rest of the group are. In which context I remember playing pitch and putt with my grandfather back when I was about 8 and suddenly hearing a howl from the far side of the course. 2 girls about my age had been mucking about in their round, and one had actually hit the other with her club, hard enough to open a 2" gash in the other's forehead.

kiff57krocker In reply to paws4thot [2018-05-10 15:59:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh Lord, I'm so sorry to hear that about that little girl.  Still, hopefully she learned a lesson from this about standing clear when another person's about to tee off.  As for Peter, yes he's the kind of fellow who wouldn't look around him before taking a swing.  Just as there are "Sunday Drivers," you've got "Sunday Golfers" who can't handle their clubs properly.

paws4thot In reply to kiff57krocker [2018-05-11 09:51:25 +0000 UTC]

I was sorry for her too, but the serious point was that I get very twitchy whenever I see anyone standing within about 2 club lengths of someone who's addressing their ball (even if it wasn't someone like Peter who I wouldn't trust as far as I could throw him (and he would outweigh me by at least 50lb if he were real)).

Thank you kindly.  I did put a lot of work into this latest pic.  I studied pictures of and made sketches of modern golf club bags and club covers.  As for the background, I studied a few pics of golf courses for that.  Thank you for your comment.

A very funny and original comeback, even for a non-golfer.  By the way, I don't play golf either, but I know a number of people who do.  And the cardinal rule in golf is never engage in idle chit-chat before teeing off.  Thanks for your comment.
