Description Submitted for this year's Halloween is my little parody of a once-popular television sci-fi series from the mid-60's that I used to watch as a child.   www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOLGrX…

"The Invaders.  Alien beings from a dying planet.  Their destination; the Earth.  Their purpose; to make it their world.  Peter Griffin has seen them.  For him, it began one lost night on a lonely country road looking for a shortcut that he never found.  It began with a closed, deserted diner and a man too long without sleep to continue his journey.  It began with the landing of a craft from another galaxy.  Now, Peter Griffin knows that the Invaders are here, that they have taken human form.  Somehow, he must convince a disbelieving world that the nightmare has already begun."

(Medium: airbrush, pen and ink, Copic color pens).
The Invaders (C) Quinn Martin Productions & Spelling Entertainment Inc.
Family Guy (C) 20th Century Fox and Seth MacFarlane.

Regrettably, I never saw the last season of "The Invaders."  That scene showing what an Invader actually looked like sounds fascinating.  Thank you for your comment.

The original concept of telling an Invader from a human was they had a eye in the palm of their hand that would open for some reason I don't recall.  But the FX wasn't capable of that feat back then.  Which is why they went for the stiff misshapen pinkie finger.

True.  Special effects such as CGI were unknown back in the '60s.  Another telltale sign of an Invader in disguise was that if an Invader was masquerading as a black man, his palms would also be black.

Never caught that.  I know they lacked any humor or other emotion.  In Keith Laumer's book, at the end the Invaders turned out to be some kind of centipede type insect.  Don't know if he added that to the tale, or it was something the series writers came up with on the side.  You can get the complete series on DVD now.

An alien centipede creature sounds creepy all right.  And as for "The Invaders" series, I will indeed order the box set from Amazon.com

I remember when Aurora (now Polar Lights) Models came out with the model for the ship, it was going from anywhere from $2.50 to $5.00.  Now you can't touch one for under $50!

True enough.  There's an online retailer called Old Model Kits.com which sells a great many model kits that are no longer made.  And yes, you have to pay through the nose for one.

Haven't been on Ebay in years.  Hated it when I was about to win something that someone would come along at the last minute and outbid me.  Would rather go on Amazon.

Well, this isn't so much a UFO abduction scenario as it's simply a simpleton like Peter being freaked out by the sight of a "craft from another galaxy."  Thank you for your comment.

Very cool tribute to the Invaders.   I could also imagine Homer Simpson doing a similar reaction if he see that UFO and how Jimbo and Ned from South Park will react not in the same way as Homer and Peter.

By the way, did you also remember an early 1970s British tv series named "UFO" ? It was produced by Gerry Anderson who did puppet-animated series Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet as well others live-action series like the Protectors, Space 1999, Space Precint.

Oh my,

what memories this brings back. I'd almost forgotten about that series. I remember the start and a few episodes, but I don't think ever having seen the end. Perhaps it never aired here.  Or I didn't see it.

Now I need to see a picture of 'Eliott Ness/Peter Starck and the original Mission Impossible crew with Barbara Bain.....

Great picture here as usual. Good job
Thank you

I remember watching The Invaders, a number of years ago. Back when we were told it was a Quinn Martin Production, and shows were labelled Act 1, Act 2, etc...

Because it's Peter Griffin we're talking about here, shouldn't it be "It began with a closed, deserted diner and a man with an IQ lower than his shoe size."?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kiff57krocker In reply to El-ManTTP [2015-11-01 14:21:55 +0000 UTC]

That's not a bad suggestion for the opening narrative.  Unfortunately I never thought about adding Peter's IQ, and I was in a hurry to finish writing the narrative.  And yes, the TV series was a Quinn Martin production, but today the company is owned by Aaron Spelling.  Thank you for your comment.

I saw some episodes of that show at TV when I was a child, and later in a rerun.
Apart from that, I love the classic sci-fi flavour of the picture.
Peter is well drawn (even if I'm not a fan of the series).

Thank you kindly.  I had no idea you'd seen any episodes of the "Invaders."  As for the sign, I figured since you put your name on the credits of your "Attack of the 50ft Meg" poster, I would have a little fun with my name on my art, too.
Thank you for your comment.  Happy Halloween.

The name kiff krocker has no meaning in and of itself.  It was just something silly I thought of when I first joined DA.  The fifty-seven in the middle was my age when I first joined over four years ago.

Gulliver63 In reply to kiff57krocker [2015-11-01 17:45:53 +0000 UTC]

I've been wracking my brain over that for a long time. Kiff makes me think of Kif from Futurama. Looking at the name now makes one think of some sort of anti-hero from the early days of rock and roll. If you played RPG type games, it would be a great name for a character. He'd carry a katana sword, a sawed-off shotgun, and drive a badass muscle car.

kiff57krocker In reply to Gulliver63 [2015-11-01 18:03:17 +0000 UTC]

I like the idea of a muscle car or better still, a classic hot rod, but sawed-off shotguns and katana swords are really not my style.  I admit I did borrow the first name "Kiff" from Kif from Futurama, and the "Krocker" was a revamped version of Crocker as in "Crocker Bank."

I'm assuming you're talking of the California-based bank. I myself really miss Valley National Bank in Arizona, which got absorbed into Bank One en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valley_N…

Yes, I was referring to the California-based Crocker Bank.  Sadly, so many banks here in SoCal either went under or were bought out by the bigger banks.  The three main banks we have here now are Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo and to a lesser extent, Farmers and Merchants Bank and Chase Bank (which absorbed Washington Mutual).

We went through the same thing here in Indiana; even First Indiana Bank became BMO headquartered in Montreal. I never thought that there would be a day here when there would be no Indiana National Bank or Hooks Drugs, but those names went away at the stroke of a pen.

In Phoenix we had a bank that used a sun kachina for its logo, much like this one www.vinylgraphicsbygreg.com/Ka…

If it makes you feel any better, here in SoCal, we had a number of different retail outlets that over the years either went belly-up or were bought out by the competition.  I can still remember certain department stores from my boyhood that no longer exist such as White Front, Zody's, Robinson's, J.C. Penney's, Woolworth's and Rexall Drugs.

We actually have a JC Penney close to our house; they took over an old K-mart that went belly-up. All of the old department stores are gone; in Cincinnati we have Pogues, Mabley and Carew, and McAlpin's. Here in Indy we had L.S. Ayers, Lazarus and Block's. Lazarus became Macy's. All of our local drug stores are gone - Hook's, Haag and Morgan's. When I fly to Phoenix, I pretty much see the same large chains as here in Indiana.

I had a nice chat with an older gentleman in a barber shop last summer, a fellow who had actually been to Vietnam. He asked me, "Do you think those older times were really so much better?" My answer to him was, "Maybe not so much - but I think that they were easier to understand." The fellow laughed and had to agree with me. I just refuse to be a part of this world where they think that Nikki Minaj and Taylor Swift are actually musicians, and reality shows are entertainment. I'll just take my Neil Young records and go on my way.
