Yeesh why are there so few tutorials on this sort of thing?
Take the high and low perspectives on the bottom for instance... how do you decide where to position everything? Naturally the steeper the angle you look up or down on a character the more foreshortened they will appear... but how do you mark out key features such as the (apparent) length of the torso or legs compared to the head? Is it all just estimation and eyeballing?

Ahaha, this tutorial is old, I should probably redo it..
ANYWAY. References. They are your friends. If you can't find a good reference, make one. Have friends stand around and take pictures from different angles. It can really help, and you'll learn to understand how these things look from different angles.

I have a couple of those little wooden mannequins all artists seem to have, would that work? (mmm Yeah it probably would nvm)
I'll definitely keep this in mind for future reference. If you ever make an updated/advanced/whatever tutorial I will be one of the first in line to comment (and fave) it.
