Description More Akula, this time in a combat role against Tholians.

Having the Akula in a commanding position was more difficult than anticipated she isn't a very big ship and after several test renders this came out the best. I also had a go at doing TMP style phasers which after several attempts I came to a compromise. More of a combination of TMP and what we saw in the game Starfleet Command. I also had a go at creating a gas giant in 3ds max there is still some need for refinement but I have a good understanding now.

The title is derived from the Game Conquest: Frontier Wars as I was listening to the Music more specific the Terran theme.

Models rigged in 3ds max

Beautiful Work, but from a design stand point: where is the deflector?

This is another great picture. And it features the thing I missed the most from the 2009 movie. And that is SHIELDS They can look so cool. I think I'll set this picture as my wallpaper if you don't mind

Thanks the Tholians interest me as a species and I haven't done a pic before with them.

Nice work once again. I like the lighting, althought the light intensity is maybe a little high for the phasers. Really good job though!

The Phasers were a pain, TMP phasers are much harder than I though they were going to be. I had The Wrath of Khan on for references and I just didn't seem to get them right.

Yeah, it's actually much harder to recreate effects in the digital world, that were originally a physical special effect, than people think! Good job though.

I wonder how they did the Phaser effect for TwoK?

Well, I can tell you that the TNG photons were created using smoke, cloudy water and a laser beam. Something along those lines I believe it was. I watched or read an interview a few years ago, I believe it was with Rick Berman, and he was talking about it. That is why the effect looked different in "Generations", because they were CG torpedoes then.

I would imagine that the paser was probably something simlar in the movie. A laser beam post worked into the film. But I could be completely wrong. Could be fluid for all we know (which kind of makes sense of an energy plasma discharge).

That's quite some interesting bit of information there. It's quite amazing how they managed to get any special effects like that on film at all.

I think it's integrated like the Miranda Class one.
