A lot of people compare Zombieland to Shaun of the Dead, and while Slither is American it's less bombastic than Zombieland, so it's a bit more grounded in its approach like ShaunΒ is.
I personally like it a lot, being not family friendly allows it to avoid those tonal whiplashes the Guardians of the Galaxy movies suffer from, so it's just a straight up R-rated horror comedy in the vein of those made in the '80s such as Night of the CreepsΒ andΒ The Return of the Living Dead.
The special effects are also a great blend of practical and CGI, and the first few times I saw it, it actually managed to make me nauseous. The thing that infects Michael Rooker makes stuff get REALLY nasty...

Other gory/body horror movies don't affect me because even though it looks good, I can tell that all that gore and body mutations aren't real, but Slither with the right touches of CGI here and there just cracked it and the gore and mutations look so much slimier, and the movements are more fluid instead of having that animatronic clunkiness.Β youtu.be/F4Lz4kfd3ZQ?t=82
