I'm not so sure about this weapon, it doesn't look as reliable as the Glock, and I don't see any point in having a grip safety.
Seriously, a trigger safety is all you need, anything else just gets in the way. The rest should be left to you to handle your gun professionally and not somehow firing it by accident. And most of the time you don't even need a trigger safety at all. It's not supposed to be safe, it's supposed to shoot things.

Well, a lot of people get clumsy, and that's what this is suppost to prevent.
Personaly, I prefer to only have a frame mounted ambidextrous toggle safety.
And the XD series is better then any Glock to me.

It CLEARLY says "Springfield Armory XD" on the slide.
A dead giveaway is the grip safety.

have you seen their VHS rifles set to replace the Zastava m70s?

vonmeer In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-06 20:40:45 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I don't like them, they look difficult to take apart and clean. I understand the want a multi-use rifle that can be used as a submachine-gun and assault rifle that uses Nato magazines with 5.56 that is also locally made.
That said for practical real world combat they would do better with a polymer receiver based M4 with a short barrel. Those polymer tops are not attached to the barrel and are going to have crappy accuracy.

kfirpanther3 In reply to vonmeer [2010-05-07 10:30:24 +0000 UTC]
why are Polymer tops needed for accuracy? Is VHS rifle legal in the USA?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
vonmeer In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-08 02:38:03 +0000 UTC]
My point is not that polymer tops are accurate, they are inaccurate as they are not attached to the barrel. It's problem with most bullpups.
As long as it's semi-auto it's legal in the US, full auto weapons are only legal with a $500 tax stamp, and only in certain states (like Montana).

can you still buy an imported firearm in Montana? without the changes in the gun itself?

vonmeer In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-08 17:07:32 +0000 UTC]
I take it you mean in full auto....perhaps but it would be a hassle and would have some tax stamps and tariffs added to the cost. In semi-auto sure no problem.
Full auto guns are only useful if your carrying a dozen spare magazines off ammo and have your ammo paid by the military. Most experienced soldiers keep their weapons on semi-auto fighting as "Spray-n-pray" does not work as well as the movies make it appear. I can empty a 30rnd mag in semi-auto fire in about 5-6 seconds.
If you need a gun to go full auto for say clearing a room, you can bump fire it to force the semi-auto gun to go full auto but realistically it's nothing you will ever need as a civilian.
A marksman with a semi-auto will defeat anyone with a full auto with an accurate gun. Thats why the M16 platform (often used in semi-auto) has OVER 10 times the kill ratio over those using ak47s.

when is full auto really useful?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
vonmeer In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-09 16:23:11 +0000 UTC]
Full auto is best used for laying down cover fire, anti-vehicular combat in room clearing (or any interior/closed hall combat where a shotgun would be equally good).
Full auto is useful, but mostly in a military capacity. It's why the US uses 3round bursts instead of full auto on the M4. It increases accuracy and saves ammo.
Fast fireing (fireing as quickly you can with the trigger) is very fast and can be used in almost the same way.
Keep in mind civilian rifles have one extreme edge over any military gun, Hollowpoint and specialty ammo that are illegal for military use. Civilian guns are generally better, more accurate and thus expensive.
My XCR beats an M4 in lots of areas, one my gun is all weather and the M4 is not. My XCR has a folding stock and is better for moving indoors or in car, so better mobility. It uses a better gas system and is more reliable and adjustable. It's multi-caliber and can switch to different ammunition calibers.
If I was in a movie where Zombies where eating everyone I'd choose a semiauto XCR over a M4 or AK47 anyday.

wow XCR, is like a magpul masada. is there an XCR without the Picatinny rails?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
vonmeer In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-11 05:52:30 +0000 UTC]
No, but why would any not want the rails it's one of the reasons most buy it. It's very much like the Bushmaster ACR (once called the Masada) but the XCR is much more customizable, though they may fix that with the ACR.
The only downside with the XCR is it has some extra weight over a AR15/M4 but it also has greatly improved recoil.
Theres no perfect gun, thats why it's good to have many for tactical uses.
Every home should have a shotgun for self defense, it's most likely the best home/close combat weapon you can get. A revolver (like the Judge) is also great as unlike magazine guns it can stay loaded all the time. (Magazines stored loaded kill the springs over time.)

vonmeer In reply to kfirpanther3 [2010-05-20 16:35:06 +0000 UTC]
The XCR uses almost anything as long as you stick the right barrel in it. I use 5.56/223 in mine.
