Description
"I've captained the Excalibur for twelve years now, since the previous war with the Damontians. Never have I flown a finer vessel. Be it in a parade, in battle, or just on patrol, I never get tired of walking her decks, inspecting her guns and her crew. She's a beautiful zep, and like all Extremi technology she has claws to back up her appearance." - Jeremiah Chase, current captain of the EANS Excalibur Extremidad's Aero-navy FlagshipThis has been floating around on my laptop for who knows how long, and what with me making a new sketchup-based folder here, I thought it only fair that this be the first entry. As to what we're looking at....
This is the Extremi Excalibur-class Aerobattleship. At 1132 feet long, she's larger than the stocky Wraith-class, but she's faster, powered by 20 powerful radial engines. Her armanent consists of five 11" anti ship guns, sixteen 20" broadside cannons, and thirteen 20mm anti aircraft cannons. She also has a hangar that carries up to three light aircraft, two medium aircraft, or one heavy aircraft, though she normally carries only two light planes for reconnaissance. With this picture, you also get a better view of Extremidad's color scheme, light grey with orange trim.
This model took me a good two weeks to make, and there were some parts where I just wanted to tear my head off. Sketchup is a fickle bitch, but as you can see, it gets the job done.
EDIT: Someone pointed out to me that, even for a 1132 foot long behemoth, the control car was really, really small for a double decker bridge. So I enlarged it, and changed nothing else.

That's one of the more thought-through designs... Some kind of thin, light, effective armor for the envelope would be the sine qua non for such marvels.

Yeah, the main idea behind the universe from which the Excalibur comes is that the world discovers new forging techniques based around a mysterious fungus-like resource known as Black Fire, which, when used to heat metals like aluminium or steel, makes the metals twice as strong, but more than half as light, allowing for airships to become practical, and so on.

Yup. Very Dieselpunk, but with a fantasy and post apocalyptic twist thrown in as well.

Interesting ship, if not far too fanciful for reality. But that is what makes imagination + airship = awesome in most cases.
