A temperate garden world sitting rimwards of the hanab Empire near the beginning of the Norma Arm, Iytera (pronounced ee-tee-ra) is the homeworld of the competitive warriors of the Vatriak Ascendancy. Fourth planet in the system, it orbits a medium sized F type star called Ahi'rava that has long passed the midway point of its projected 5 billion year lifespan and has begun to swell into a red giant. Even so, Iytera is in no immediate danger and has several hundreds of millions of years of habitability left. Its slightly eccentric orbit (0.118) takes 382 days to complete, or 235 local days with one day lasting 39 hours, and it hosts one close orbiting small moon, Seravillo, which is surprisingly dense and massive and exerts significant tidal stress on its parent.

Iytera itself is also denser than average (about 120% Earth density)- combined with its relative youth and tidal stress from its satellite, this makes Iytera a very geologically active body with thousands of active volcanoes and faster than average tectonic drift. Its dense, earth-like atmosphere also has high concentrations of greenhouse gases, raising temperatures but also- combined with plentiful, fertile, volcanic ash- feeds the dense forests that dominate 90% of all available land. The high plant content raises oxygen levels to dangerous degrees, to the point that periodic wildfires rage for weeks and engulf tens of thousands of hectares per year. This has put such pressure on wildlife, flora and fauna alike, that life cycles on Iytera are accelerated to point that a burnt hectare of land is recolonized in dense vegetation in a matter of weeks. Animals have similarly accelerated lifestyles and generations pass by far faster than in other biospheres; one of the few exceptions is the sapient vatriak, who most likely evolved sapience as a way to compete with this phenomena.

To avoid the raging firestorms and the all encompassing and invasive forests, the vatriak build their settlements in solid mountain rocks, high above the rest of the forests where vegetation isn't nearly as pervasive. Few of these solitary fortresses exist, the vatriak not being the most industrious or colonizing sapient species, being far more content with personal honor and the honing of personal skill, mostly in the arts of martial prowess. They are, however, a vain and prideful race, their cities decorated with monuments made to the glory of their heroes. Not long after their discovery by the hanab, the vatriak were vassalized (after a short war of aggression by the vatriak) and brought up galactic levels of technology, they and their world becoming prime vassals to the Empire.

Seravillo has been extensively mined to fuel the development of the existing city-fortresses; Iytera itself acts as one of the Empire's most important pool of recruits, with over 40% of the 1.3 billion population having had some experience in the Imperial Military. Suffice to say, invading Iytera would be meet with extremely fierce resistance, especially from the elite guardians of vatriak civilization, the Hakat.
