Description Program used: Rhinoceros 4 w/V-ray for Rhino

Classification: Enhanced Armor Penetrating Shotgun Round

The Armor Penetrating Exposed Core Shot/Slug (SG-APEC, SGS-APEC) rounds are used to punch through soft and medium armor.

The slug round consists of a sharp, tungsten carbide penetrator with a soft metal core to fill up space and partially encased in a copper jacket while leaving the tip of the TC core exposed. The polymer tail helps keep the round stabilized in flight increasing accuracy above older slug designs.

The shot round consists of several O "Ought" sized (8.1mm) Dodecahedron shaped, solid tungsten carbide pellets. This shape allows the pellet to have several sharp edges and points to facilitate easier penetration of hard targets. This shape also allows you to pack more shot in the same amount of space.

Because the tungsten carbide core is much denser and harder than steel it is able to maintain momentum much better than most rounds of the same caliber and the sharp tipped shape is allowed to directly strike the target without a copper buffer. These factors allows the Projectile to punch through harder targets than regular AP rounds.

The down side to the AP round is that it is prone to over penetrate through the target. That means that not all of the bullets energy is transferred to the target and this poses a risk to anything behind it, but sometimes this is a desired effect...

The shell casing is made out of Nano-polymer 239 that is colored light and medium grey with added red/green and black stripes, this plastic is much lighter than brass and other metals that were previously used for casings and it is incredibly strong easily taking on high pressure loads.
