Description
Done with normal fat-end Copics, not Sketchers (Most art shops I've been to have a larger normal range than sketcher rangeMe scabbing off the tester Copics at a local art atore. Not all colours are represented (Purples, etc...) and it's obviously no substitute for having them on paper in front of you (Some colours which look similar here are more different on the real thing: Like E02 is more pinkish than E11, and BG49 is more green than BG09). But this might be useful to some, and it's better than the useless and innacurate official colour chart.
Scan hasn't been edited, so as to keep them as original as possible. The nature of scanning and computers means there will always be innacuracies anyway. If you can, always test Copics firsthand before buying.
I make these for my own reference when I want to invest in some new colours~ :3 You really need to see them in more than one light and consider your options when buying Copics (I've made mistakes on more than one occasion. I should have bought YR14 instead of YR04... and YG23 instead of YG06). Circled colours are ones I own.

This really helped me a lot. Thank you for making it.
Shops close to me also don't sell the sketch ones so i have to buy others, althought they are still very good ^_^
you know, I noticed that there are a lot of colors only suitable for the sketch markers.
I had choosed some colors from another copic color chart wich was made by sketch markers and when i did go to the shop they didn't have the most of the colours
And they told me they had every color.
That's why this chart is so much more helpful to me than other ones, They have every color of this chart in the shop ^_^
and once again thank you! Because of this chart I now have to perfect blue colors I wanted : )

You know, I made myself one of these today. Terribly useful, aren't they?
Can I ask where you buy your markers? I'm in Melbourne, and so far I've only been able to buy/find Copics on the 'net.

Huh- the shop that I buy copics from has a larger range of sketch ones than normal ones. o.o Anywho, cool! It's always useful to have one of these on hand to see how it looks once it's dry and what it looks like when I scan it in with my piece of CRAP scanner. ^^

A Marker color chart, eh?
I thought they would be sold in packs. But this makes me think that they are piled together in bins, and you pick them out. ^_^;
You can ignore these questions if you like:
What are these markers used for, and how do you use them?
What brand would you suggest, or is 'Copic' the brand name?
What do you wish you knew when you started using this type of Marker?
Thanks for posting this. It is an excelltent array of colors. <3

They're on a special shelf which has all the markers in numbered colour order, so you can pick out the ones you want :3. Though they do also come in pre-determined packs (I think it's packs of 12, 32 and 74 or something).
1) They're used a lot for illustration, but I'm told architects and product designers also use them when doing designs (Such as automobile concept drawings). They are alcohol based markers, which means that they can be 'mixed' to a certain extent on the page and layered on top of each others. Unlike other pens they don't leave 'streaks' when you pass back over a section you've already coloured (Because of the alcohol base they kind of blend together. Though, if you let it dry then you can go back over to make it a bit darker)
2) Copic is considered the leader in the field, though there are other brands such as Tria markers (These use colours based on the Pantone system). Copic also make a lot of inking pens, and their coloured markers come in three different types; the regular, which have a hard flat tip and a hard sharp tip; sketchers, which have a hard flat tip and a soft brush tip (So good for illustration where you need more finesse with the colour application); and Ciao, which are basically a smaller version of the Sketchers. You can re-fill them and make your own custom inks as well, and there are super-wide and airbrush variant pens.
3) 'They don't work on pencil D:...', 'ick your colours wisely; look at them in more than one light before choosing'. They can also be a little bit addictive as you build up a nice collection and look for new colours to add xD. Which can be a bummer, since they cost about AUS$8 each. But oh well...

Thank you soooo much!!!!!
I saved up about a years' worth of allowances to buy a 24 pack of custom copic sketch markers, and I picked out the colors using the official color chart. Big mistake. I got three of pretty much the same color brown, pitch black (that I thought was dark grey,) and a skin tone that looks exactly the same as another one I bought.
So much money wasted T_T
But these look really accurate compared to the ones I have, and I'll definitely use this when I buy more.
Thanks!!!!! ^^

what do you recomend for the first few colours i buy.
im going to buy a few markers, (not so many cause they are so expensive), so which colours would be most usefull?

The first colours I bought were a grey and a skintone. I suggest something like that for starters, building up a selection of skintone/shading colours and then branching out to the other specific palettes you use often. Greys are useful for shading, and skintone... well, it's a colour you're going to use frequently. It's also good to choose colours that have a versatility to them and can be layered with other colours.

I plan on buying some in the near future (I've had some Copic Ciaos and even they were better for me than prismacolors) and this'll be invaluable! Thanks much!

I'm glad to see someone else does this too!
My best friend and I have spent a ton of time in art shops trying to decide on the best additions to our marker collections. A tiny difference in hue really can make a big difference in how they blend with each other!
One store we were in, this lady kept hovering around... and it was pretty obvious she wanted us to hurry up. Wild and crazy hooligans that we are... suspiciously testing all the Copics...

In Australia they are about $8.50 for the Sketchers, $8 for the normal, and I have some Ciao markers I got for $6. Another reason why you need to think hard about what colours to get . And then you need inking pens that won't bleed because of the alcohol base, and paper which will hold the colour well. But the textures and effects you get with traditional colouring can be worth it :3

Jinnizzle In reply to kimiko [2006-12-03 08:38:21 +0000 UTC]
Wow. o.O I guess that's not that bad, I was expected about $15,
I take it the Sketchers are the best...? Don't know much in the way of art supplies because I'm so far away from any decent art stores. So what kind of inking pens? I've been using an Artline Drawing system. Says on it pigment ink, water based and water resistant, so is that the sorta inking pen I need?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
kimiko In reply to Jinnizzle [2006-12-03 08:49:40 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, most art inking pens are fine. I think anything pigment based is what you need (I'm not expert, however xD;...). There are special Copic brand ones, but Micron, Artline, Staedtler etc are fine too, and probably cheaper.
Sketchers and Ciao Copics have (In addition to a hard fat tip) a brush tip which makes them better for illustration. The normal copics only have fat and thin hard tips, so you don't get as much flexibility. Sketchers hold more ink than the Ciao, but I think the Ciao are refillable or something...

Yeah, someone told me the Ciao were refillble, but I didn't know if the Sketchers were.
