I was browsing Ash Ketchum art on this website and there wasn't any stamp like this one, so I decide to make it.
Because I really think people overate Ash flaws. Yes, he's not the best battler. Yes, Red is better in battle than him... but the Pokemon universe do NOT composite only of battles. While Ash does have his own flaws, he still have good points. While Red does have good points, he still have flaws.
Of course I need to justify why I think this:

Ash didn't catch all of the Pokemon species, but Red did.

Correct, he didn't. But think about it: in wich way it would be useful to him to catch them all? I'm not saying that it wouldn't help at all if he did, but its like obvious at my eyes that you don't need to catch all pokemon to become a good battler. You only use six of them in your team after all... What I am tring to say is, well, if Ash doesn't catch every single specie is simply because he doesn't need to. Each pokemon (even Magikarp) can be useful if used with a good technic (i'm talking about items for some). Also, Ash goal is not to catch em all, but to become a Pokemon master, while Red openly said he was going to fulfill the Pokedex. And Ash, in the opposite of Red, goes to many regions, wich allow him to catches more pokemon.

Red defeated Giovanni while Ash can't barely take down Jessie, James and Meowth.

Well, Ash maybe didn't take down Team Rocket, but he did taken down Team Aqua, Team Magma, Team Plasma and kind of send the Team Galactic admins in jail. All of this without mention 17 other more or less high-powered criminals, wich most of them were extremely dangerous (Zero wanted to attack the real world using the distortion world if this is not dangerous then WTF is this). Okay I know Molly Hale can't really be classified as one of them but Ash still play a role at preventing her to take the wrong path. And, if you watch every single episodes of the pokemon anime, you will notice that Ash and co. rebel many times against the trio. In fact, its the trio who insist to following Ash. If Ash take them down once, they will just wait to recover. When it will be do, they will restart to follow Ash.

Ash didn't catches any legendaries.

Is because he choose to help them instead. I'm not saying Red was wrong to capture one, not a all, i'm just saying that Ash thinks of the pokemon good before capturing them. And I honestly don't see what wrong about this, I don't get why people rage about that. Also, Ash actually meet all of the legendaries. Red meet like... 2 or 3? (not sure cuz I didn't play any games involving Red). And Ash risk is life more than once for the legendaries, and almost sacrificed himself to prove to Mewtwo it was taking the wrong path (I didn't watch the first movie, so I may be not 100% correct about that, but this is what I understood from what I read).

Ash never wins the Pokemon league.

Actually, he did once. Okay it may be not the same kind of pokemon league than you talk about, but its still a league. Its the Orange league. Also, its not like Ash loses all the time. He may not winned another league, but he does win sometimes.

Ash free fully evolve Pokemon.

Again, is because he thinks about his Pokemon good before fulfilling the pokedex. Okay, he never comes back for them, I can't deny it... however, it is obvious to me that if he don't use them now, he definitely planned to not uses them anymore. This is why he freed them: to prevent them from spending all the time confined in pokeballs. And he takes the time to choose a comfortable place for them. Take Charizard, for example. Also, if you think Ash doesn't care about his poke anymore, then you didn't watched the Black and White series. Because there is a episode where he remembered Charizard.

By taking all this information, I conclude than, one hand, Red have exceptional battle skills, but his heart is a not the ''hottest''. On the other hand, while Ash is not the best battler, he have a pure, kind heart.
I'm not saying that Ash is better than Red, i'm just saying why I think people make him worse than he really is.
