Description
The Philippine Eagle.A large eagle found exclusively in the Philippines. It has the largest body size of any eagle, able to grow to a maximum of 102 cm (3.35 ft) in length, and is considered the second heaviest eagle, right after the Steller's Sea Eagle (Haliaeetus pelagicus). They are characterized by the many brown feathers covering their head and nape, giving it a rather scruffy or shaggy appearance, and their bluish-grey face. They are powerful predators, seizing animals such as bats, smaller birds, rodents, snakes, flying lemurs, civets, small deer, and monkeys (another name for the Philippine eagle is the Monkey-Eating Eagle) with their strong legs and large hooked talons. It is among the rarest of all raptors, and is listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN.

When colugos form 90% of the diet the scientific name is a huge misnomer! for more than one reason.

For some reason, almost all monkey eating eagles have head crests. Just look at the harpy eagle, of the African crowned eagle. Cool picture!
