Description
Just to specify this part of a larger scenario I’ve been working on and should not be construed has a legitimate 2020 prediction. I try to justify events with a certain about of logic but these are all fantastically unlikely results.Going into the 2020 election the senate map looked nearly as bad as the electoral map for Republicans. After the failure to capitalize on the 2018 election in which 24 democratic seats where open for election and only 11 Republicans seat had to be defended high Democrat turnout led to the Republican only picking up 2 seats. The situation was reversed in 2020 when the Republican now had to defend 23 seats. Early on the most vulnerable senators where Cory Gardner, Martha McSally, Kelly Loeffler, Susan Collins, and Thom Tillis. On the Democratic side only Doug Jones seemed in a serious threat of losing his seat. However a string of progressive victories over establishment Democrats would turn the table in favor on the Republicans. Progressive primary wins in Kentucky, Colorado, and Maine would prevent Democrats from flipping those seats. They would also allow Republican candidates in New Hampshire and Minnesota to flip the seats. Overall the negative effects some of the riots had mixed with talks of defunding the police hurt more moderate democrats like Mark Kelly and Gary Peters. Thanks to Trump's narrow victory in Arizona and Michigan Martha McSally was able to retain her seat and allowed John James to become the second African American Republican in the United States senate.
These last two close calls would also lead to controversy among Trump supporters that members of the Republican establishment deliberately convinced the Trump campaign to divert fund away from battle ground states of Pennsylvania, Florida, and Ohio because they didn't have any senate races at the time.
