Chapter 11 - The Tragedy of the Sculk Prince

Everyone reappeared back in the house. When the blue light faded away, Haydn could be seen sitting in a chair. There were also a bunch of slimes in the room with them.

“You’re back!” Haydn said.

“Whoa! Why are there slimes in the house?” Envy asked as she noticed the slimes.

“Oh yeah, Envy.” Siss explained. “So, after we defeated the King Slime, he dropped a treasure bag, right? One of the items in there was this thing called Royal Gel. I didn’t know what it was. So, I put it on, and now all the slimes seem to like me.”

“Yeah. And I said I think she’s their new ruler now.” Bonnie added on.

“So, yeah. I think the slimes are on our side now.” Siss said.

“Huh. Very interesting.” Envy said.

“Yeah, Siss got all sorts of things.” Haydn said.

“Like this little guy.” Siss said as she pulled out a slime staff and summoned a baby slime minion.

“Awwww! Hello!” Envy said in a cute voice while patting the slime on the head. The little slime bounced in joy as she did so.

“Also, you want this back?” Siss asked while holding the suspicious grinning eye from the other day. “I don’t want it.”

“Ew, no. I’m still creeped out by that thing.” Envy said in disgust. “Why not give it to Haydn?”

“I mean sure, I’ll take it.” Haydn said. Siss handed him the suspicious grinning eye and he equipped it in his inventory, summoning a miniature Eye of Cthulhu pet. “Wow!” Haydn said as he noticed the eye staring at him. “Ok, that’s pretty cool. Also, who is that?” he asked, pointing at Simon.

“This is our new friend, Simon.” Envy answered.

“Nice to meet you.” Simon said.

“Oh yeah, we also found a person inside the King Slime.” Siss said.

“Wait. You saw a person inside that thing too?” Envy asked in surprise. “At first I thought I was going insane when I saw that.”

“Yeah, he’s resting upstairs.” Siss said.

“I’ll check him out later.” Envy said. “Now let’s see what’s in this one.” She then pulled out the Eater of Worlds treasure bag and opened it. Inside was the Eater of Worlds Trophy and Relic, writhing remains, an Eater of Worlds mask, the Eater’s Bone, demonite ore, more shadow scales, a worm scarf, and some coins. Envy picked up the scarf and put it on. “Hm. It feels very comfortable.” Envy said. Envy picked up the writhing remains. “Don’t know what this is.” she said as she accidentally used it. A miniature version of the Eater of Worlds then crawled out of it. “Awww! I got a cute little guy too!” Envy said as the worm wrapped itself around her arm.

“Yay! New friends!” Wart said.

“Oh my god, it talks!” Haydn cried.

“You have a problem, bud?” Wart asked.

“Hey, Envy. Can I please have that bone right there?” Bonnie asked.

“I don’t see why not. Knock yourself out.” Envy answered. Bonnie took the Eater’s Bone and when she used it, a pet eater of souls showed up.

“Whoa! What?” Bonnie said. Andrew then walked in.

“Envy! You’re back!” Andrew said.

“Hey, Andrew.” Envy said.

“I believe you have met my brother, Kronos.” Andrew said as the mysterious ninja walked in behind him.

“Slime person?” Envy said as she saw the ninja.

“Oh, you’re awake!” Siss said.

“Kronos, this is Envy and her friends. They’re the one who saved you.” Andrew said.

“Thank you all.” Kronos said.

“Oh. No problem.” Haydn said. Andrew’s eyes then shifted over to Simon.

“And who is this?” Andrew asked.

“Andrew, this is Simon.” Envy answered. “He’s a sculk dragon.”

“A what?” Kronos said.

“Where we’re from, his race is thought to have died out ages ago.” Envy explained.

“Speaking of which, tell us more about your kind, Simon.” Siss said.

“Yeah, do you know how you got here?”

“Ummm…..Both yes and no.” Simon responded. “Let me tell y’all a story about my people.” Everyone then gathered around as Simon told them his story. “A long time ago, deep within the caves of another realm, there was a darkness known as the sculk infection.” Simon explained. “The sculk infection plagued the world, corrupting anything in its path and mutating anything that breathed, into blind, mindless killing machines. Me and the rest of my kind don’t exactly know the true origins behind our speciation, but we believe that it had something to do with evolution. Since our ancestors were immune to the infection, they were able to reduce the spread, cure anything infected by it, and find some way to contain it. By doing so, they built cities in the caverns, so that it wouldn’t escape. We also used the sculk to create things beyond what humans could. Everything was peaceful for our ancestors.”

“I don’t understand though. What happened?” Envy asked.

“Well, everything was perfect,” Simon continued. “until HE arrived. The Bane of Souls. An evil being with no other passion than to kill and consume the souls of any living thing unlucky to encounter him. He nearly drove the sculk dragons to extinction, destroying city after city. Before he could reach whatever was left us, we were saved by a being known as the Empress of Shadow.”

“The Empress of Shadow?” Envy said in confusion.

“Hey, I’ve heard of her.” Haydn said. "She was worshiped by the Skycloudians."

“Never heard of them, but ok.” Simon said. “Anyways, she took us to safety, in this realm. We thanked her and praised her. In return, she helped us learn to survive in our new home, until we proved we could live on our own again. After that, we never saw her since. As centuries passed, we grew more and more knowledgeable about the world around us. Almost a century ago, we accidentally unlocked something evil that changed the world, forever. But that led us to access new stuff, until we couldn’t go any further.” Simon then shifted over to his backstory. “Now let me tell y’all my backstory. I am not from around here. I was born in the kingdom of Atrauma.” Simon explained. “My parents were king and queen of our city. Therefore, I was a prince at one time.” Simon was then interrupted when Envy gasped.

“You’re a prince?!” she cried.

"Yes I was. Specifically, the prince of the deep dark." Simon said.

"Well, don't mind if I bow to you." Haydn said as he bowed to him.

"Thank you, but please don't do that." Simon said.“Ahem! As I was saying,” he continued, “I was a prince as a young boy. I didn't really have that many friends growing up due to my status. Since I didn't have any brothers or sisters, I was supposed to be next in line to rule. Life was good for the most part. But one night, everything changed. Me and my mom were just sitting in the garden. First we heard screams. Then we saw these creepy alien-looking soldiers at the entrance. They were holding guns. My mother then tried to hide me. Before she could run away to distract them, she was shot right in front of me. It didn't take long for them to find me. I tried to fight back, but they were too strong. I then felt a pain in my chest as I heard a loud bang. I looked down and my chest was covered in blood. The soldiers then dropped me as a mysterious figure approached from the entrance with a weapon in hand. Whoever they were, they looked like some kind of knight. As my vision blurred, I could see the soldiers getting brutally murdered. I then asked who they were, and then I blacked out." A tear slowly rolled from his eye. Everyone was left in complete shock.

"Simon….Are you saying you were killed?" Envy asked.

"I'm not sure what happened to me." Simon said. When I woke up, I wasn't in the garden anymore. I didn't recognize where I was. Not only that, but I noticed I looked completely different. I was completely pink, I was glowing, I could even teleport. We sculk dragons never had such abilities, and our bodies were always blue or teal. I knew something happened to me. I couldn’t even think. It hurt. I was so lost and afraid. For years, I tried to get someone to help me, but all everyone did was run away from me. Eventually however, I met Wart. He was basically the only friend I ever had for all those years alone. Then a few weeks ago, I was sitting alone in the dark, thinking about the life I used to have. I then heard a noise echo from a nearby tunnel. I went to investigate, and that was when I saw you, Envy.”

"I know exactly how it feels to be alone." Envy said.

"We all do." Bonnie said. "And it is not a nice feeling." Simon then smiled.

"Well, I’m glad all of you understand as much as I do.” Simon said. "Do y’all have any questions?" No one answered. "Alright, then I guess this is all I have to say. Thank you for listening."

"Say, Kronos. How did you even get stuck inside that big ass slime?" Bonnie asked.

“It’s a long story.” Kronos answered. “I can’t even remember how I got stuck in that thing, nor my life before it."

"You seem to be suffering from a little amnesia, brother." Andrew said.

"Alright, guys. I'm getting kinda bored. I'm gonna go talk to Xavier." Bonnie said as she got up and went upstairs. Later during the evening, everyone else went off and did their own thing. Envy forged the demonite and shadow scales into tools and sets of armor for herself, Siss, Bonnie, Haydn, Simon, and Sombra, who she hoped to find. After she put her set on, she gave each of the other sets to all of them, except for Simon, he went up to the roof.

“Are you sure you don’t want a fresh set of armor Bonnie?” Envy asked. “The armor you’re wearing right now looks really old.”

“I’m sure.” Bonnie answered. “Besides, it looks like it's still in good condition.”

“Ok then.” Envy said. “In the meantime, I’m gonna go talk to Simon.”

“Good luck!” Bonnie said as Envy went up to the roof. As Envy opened the hatch to the roof, Simon’s sculk sensors clicked as he heard the noise. He turned around and saw Envy. Wart was sitting next to him.

“Oh, hey.” Simon said. “What brings you up here?”

“Just wanted to talk.” Envy said.

“Wart, leave us.” Simon said to Wart.

“That means you too, Ellie.” Envy said to the Eater of Worlds pet still wrapped around her. The two worms went down the attic and closed the hatch. Envy and Simon laid down and looked at the cloudy, night sky.

“Sure is cloudy tonight.” Simon said. “I can’t even see the moon.”

“Tell me about it.” Envy said. “I have something for you, by the way. I just made it” Envy handed him the shadow armor.

“Oh. Thank you.” Simon said as he took the set.

“So, the sculk prince, huh?” Envy said.

“Yup.” Simon said. “By the way, what’s your backstory?”

“Me?” Envy said in confusion. “Ok, um…..I was born in another realm too. Though, it was one that had a dark dimension full of floating islands and void. It was called the End. My father, Shulk, was a darkrune ender dragon like me. He was also one of the greatest sorcerers out there.”

“What kind of magic did he do?” Simon asked.

“Darkrune magic.” Envy answered. “My mother, however, is something else. She’s something called a voidic ender dragon.”

“Uh huh.” Simon said.

“We lived in one of the dark areas of the End dimension.” Envy said.

“So, where are your parents now?” Simon asked.

“Dead.” Envy said in a grim voice. “They were murdered after our home got destroyed.”

“Oh no!” Simon said in a depressed voice. “I’m sorry for your loss.”

“Thanks.” Envy said, feeling depressed. “I was then found by a villager named Ivan. He took me with him back to his village in a dimension known as the Overworld. There, he taught me things like how to use my magic, and how to defend myself. A few years ago, the Overworld went into a period of Civil War with a race known as the illagers. Arkala, our village, survived the war until recently. I met Siss, Bonnie, and a third friend named Sombra. We were then selected to retrieve an item known as the Earth Pearl. Lord Drax, the leader of the illagers, found a map that led it. Long story short, we found the pearl, but the illagers were one step ahead of us. They destroyed our village, and killed Ivan. So, we invaded their base, and defeated Drax. In the end however, we got sucked into some random portal here, and got separated.” Envy started to tremble a bit.

“Interesting, so you’re a war hero. Not bad for an endangered species.” Simon said.

“Thank you.” Envy blushed. Her depression got worse though. “I just…wish I could see my parents one last time…" She whined, "I wish I could’ve saved them from that creepy red smiling, knife holding freak who did this to me! That smile! Dear God, that smile! I just want it to leave my head!" Envy then put her hands over her eyes and had a meltdown.

“Hey. Hey. It’s ok. Don’t cry.” Simon said as he tried to comfort Envy. “Envy, I’ve thought the things I experienced were way worse than that, but yours are equally matched with mine. I miss my mother too. I miss her sweet voice. Her songs.” Simon then hugged her. “Remember, Envy. You’re not the only one out there who has lost their loved ones like that.” Envy then hugged him back.

“I know~” Envy whimpered. Eventually, she stopped crying. "There was one thing that Ivan told me before he died." She spoke again.

"What was it?" Simon asked.

"He told me, 'What destiny is lost is not gone forever. There's always a way to redeem yourself.'" Envy said.

"That…is actually a really good saying, Envy." Simon said. "He must’ve had a lot of faith in you."

"He did." Envy said. She then took out her mysterious amulet and showed it to Simon. "When I first met Andrew, I found this in my inventory." She explained. Simon examined the amulet curiously.

"What is that, Envy?" He asked.

"I don't know. Yet, it looks really familiar to me." Envy answered. She then shrugged and put it back in her inventory. “Let’s just go back in.” she then said.

“I agree.” Simon said. Suddenly, it started to rain. Envy and Simon went to head downstairs, but when they tried to open the hatch, it was locked. “What the?” Simon said.

“It’s not locked, is it!?” Envy said in a concerned voice.

“Hey, this isn’t funny! Let us in!” Simon yelled as he banged on the hatch. “Let us-” Just then, a lightning bolt crashed, making a loud boom. Simon fell backwards off the roof as he screamed.

“Simon!” Envy shouted before she slipped off the roof and fell on top of Simon in an awkward position. Both of them blushed for a moment and then scrambled back on their feet. “You ok?” Envy asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” Simon said as he grunted a little.

“Let’s just go.” Envy said as they both went back inside, all wet.
