Chapter 13 - A New Perspective
{Male voice: “Who are you?”
Female voice: “Don’t be afraid. You’re safe now. ”
Male voice: “Well whoever you are, thank you……….Where are we by the way?”
Female voice: “I have brought all of you to another realm similar to yours. Be careful though. There is an evil that lurks in this realm, and it’s worse than the one in yours.”
Male voice: “Can I please ask you something?”
Female voice: “Sure, go ahead.”
Male voice: “If this is an entirely different world with different properties, will you please help us learn how to survive in it?”
Female voice: “Absolutely.”
Male voice: “Thank you so much!………So…….where do we start?”}
The next morning Bonnie, Siss, and Haydn were put in the infirmary. Envy just woke up from a long rest. She had bandages all over her wounds, and her armor was removed. She groaned a little as she stretched. Holly the nurse opened the door to Envy’s room and walked in. She noticed Envy sitting up on the bed.
“Oh hey. You’re finally awake. Are you feeling better?” she asked.
“Yeah, although some parts are still a little sore.” Envy answered as she yawned. “How are Bonnie, Siss and Haydn?”
“We’re still trying to thaw them out.” Holly said. “But, Bonnie just woke up. She still isn’t put back together yet.”
“Oh.” Envy said in a gloomy voice.
“Don’t worry, Envy.” Holly said as she tried to comfort her, “I checked their vitals, and they read they’re still alive.”
“I’m just worried about them.” Envy said. Just then, someone knocked on the doorway.
“Come in.” Holly shouted. Sombra walked in.
“Hey.” she said.
“Hi, Sombra.” Envy said.
“How are you feeling?” Sombra asked.
“A little sore.” Envy answered as she rubbed one of her bandaged wounds. “What about you? How’s your head?”
“It’s fine, actually.” Sombra said, revealing the bandage wrapped around her forehead.
“That’s good at least.” Envy said. “Where’s Simon?”
“Oh, he and Dolgrim went back to the snow biome to mine that meteorite from last night.” Sombra said.
“Wait, what!?” Envy cried.
“Don’t worry. The storm ended already.” Sombra said. “They should be alright.”
“Oh. Well I hope they come back.” Envy said. Holly then spoke to Envy.
“I mean you still can get out of bed and walk around if you want, but I suggest you should relax today.” she said.
“Ok.” Envy said.
“Is there anything else you need right now?” Holly asked.
“I would like to see Bonnie, please.” Envy said. “Me and Sombra can help put her back together.”
“If that’s the case, then yes you can.” Holly said.
“Thank you.” Envy said. She then stood up from the bed and stretched again. “By the way, do you know where my armor is?” she asked as she finished stretching.
“Yes, it’s in that chest over there. Along with a treasure bag that Simon told me to put in as well.” Holly answered as she pointed at the chest on the other side of the room.
“Thanks.” Envy said. She groaned as she walked over to the chest. She opened it and put all of its contents into her inventory. She then turned to Sombra and said “Come on, Sombra.” Envy and Sombra left the room and walked to the infirmary. When they reached the room Bonnie was in, Bonnie’s head was facing the wall and looked as if she could hear something. Envy opened the door and Bonnie snapped out of what she was doing. “Hey, Bonnie.” Envy said.
“Oh. There y’all are.” Bonnie said as she turned to look at Envy and Sombra. “What the hell happened?”
“Well, long story short:” Envy explained “We thought we defeated that deerclops thing, but then things got out of hand and we almost died. Luckily, Simon was able to kill it and save me before it could bite my head off.”
“Yeah and before that, the deerclops picked you up and threw you at a tree.” Sombra added on.
“Oh yeah, I remember.” Bonnie said. “And……..Wait, what about Siss! Is she alright?”
“She and Haydn are still frozen.” Envy said. “However, some of the townspeople are trying to thaw them out.”
“And don’t worry.” Sombra said “Holly said they’re still alive.”
“Well that’s a relief.” Bonnie sighed. “By the way, did that one eyed deer drop anything?”
“Let us put you back together first, then we’ll do the looting.” Envy said. After Bonnie was put back together, Envy pulled out the Deerclops treasure bag that was in the chest. She opened it. The first thing she pulled out was an axe. Everyone was confused.
“A chopping axe?” Bonnie said stubbornly.
“Well this is lame.” Envy said in disappointment. “There’s something written on here though. It says, ‘My name is Lucy’.”
“The axe has a name?” Sombra said.
“Apparently so.” Envy said as she put the axe in her inventory. “Your turn, Sombra.” Sombra received the bag and reached into it. She pulled out a strange rod with a weather vane on it.
“What the heck?” Sombra said in confusion. “What is this supposed to be?”
“I don’t know.” Envy said.
“I’ll find out later.” Sombra said as she put the weather vane in her inventory and passed the bag to Bonnie.
“Alright then, my turn!” Bonnie said eagerly. She reached in and pulled out a horn gun. “What the- A ‘Pew-matic Horn’?” Bonnie said as she read the text on the side of the horn. “What the hell is a Pew-Matic Horn?”
“I don’t know, but it sounds stupid.” Sombra said.
“I agree.” Bonnie said.
“Now wait a minute. These items may look stupid at first glance, but they miight actually be better once we see them in action.” Envy stated as she took the bag from Bonnie. “So, don’t be disappointed just yet.” After rotating the bag around for a few minutes, Envy eventually got the last item in the bag. When Envy received the bag, the item she pulled out was a strange looking “Radio Thing” along with a Deerclops Relic, a Deerclops Trophy and a bunch of silver and gold coins. “A radio?” Envy said in confusion.
“Yeah, what the heck?” Sombra said.
“It looks like it’s from the early 20th century, and it looks brand new too.” Bonnie said.
“I know. Right?” Envy said. As Envy moved the Radio Thing around at different angles, she noticed a message carved into its backside. “There’s a message carved on the back.”
“What does it say?” Bonnie asked.
“It says, ‘Those who find this shall be able to see the world differently…’” Envy read.
“See the world differently?” Bonnie said. “What does it mean? It doesn’t make any sense.”
“I’m not sure.” Envy replied.
“And besides, radios are for sound, not seeing.” Sombra added on as she picked up the Deerclops Relic and the Deerclops Trophy. Envy shrugged and put the Radio Thing into her inventory. After the girls split the coins between each other, they left the room and went to where Siss and Haydn were. As they walked in, they saw that both of them were still frozen in ice. They were also in tubs full of some of the ice that melted into water, while also being surrounded by heaters.
“Aw, poor Siss!” Bonnie said in a worried tone.
“And Haydn.” Envy added on.
“How much longer do you think they’re going to be stuck like this?” Bonnie asked.
“We don’t know, Bonnie.” Sombra answered. “All we can do is wait.”
“Can’t we just mine them out?” Bonnie asked again.
“We don’t want to accidentally hurt them.” Envy answered.
“Ok, I see the problem now.” Bonnie said. The two blocks of ice sparkled as the girls stared at them for a moment. “Sooo, what now?” Bonnie then asked.
“I mean you can go do something else right now if you want.” Sombra replied.
“Alright, then I’m going to go talk to Xavier. There’s something I wanted from him, and now I have the money for it.” Bonnie said.
“That’s fine.” Sombra said.
“Bye.” Envy said. Bonnie walked out of the room. Sombra and Envy then looked back towards the ice blocks. There was a brief moment of silence.
“Hey, Envy?” Sombra said.
“What is it, Sombra?” Envy asked.
“Did you experience anything weird when trying to sleep last night, other than what happened to Siss and Haydn? Cause I did.” Sombra asked.
“What happened?” Envy asked back.
“When I was trying to fall asleep,” Sombra explained, “I kept hearing a strange voice talking to me.”
“What did the voice say to you?” Envy asked.
“I don’t remember.” Sombra answered. “Maybe I’m just hearing things. What about you?”
“Well, nothing else happened last night.” Envy said. “Although, I did have this strange dream of a man talking to a woman.”
“What were they talking about?” Sombra asked.
“Well first of all,” Envy explained, “whoever this woman was, sounded like she just saved a whole civilization from a certain doom. The man also sounded like it was the king, thanking the woman for saving them. The woman said that she took him and his people to a realm similar to theirs, but with an evil much more dangerous than the one in theirs. The king asked her if she could help them learn how to survive in the new realm. She agreed. That’s all I can remember from that.”
“That really is strange.” Sombra said. Just then, a green slime hopped into the room. Envy and Sombra turn around to find the slime right behind them.
“Oh, hey little guy. What are you doing here?” Envy said. The slime then made a noise as it noticed Siss frozen in the ice behind them. He hopped towards it and made a shocked noise.
“Ohhh. Yeah, her.” Sombra said to the slime.
“Don’t worry, she’s ok. She’s still thawing out though.” Envy said to the slime. The slime then thought of an idea. The slime called for his friends as more slimes stampeded in the room. The slime then explained something to the slimes in a slime-like language. Whatever it was, they seemed to agree. The green slime then turned to Envy and Sombra, and pointed at the heaters surrounding Siss.
“What’s he saying?” Sombra asked Envy. Envy looked at the heaters that the slime was pointing at, and then back at the slime.
“Turn it off?” Envy asked the slime. The slime did a gesture that meant yes. Envy then stood up and looked at Sombra. “I think he wants us to turn off the heaters.”
“But why?” Sombra asked.
“I don’t know, but I think they have an idea.” Envy answered. Her and Sombra turned off all of the heaters. As they stepped back, the slimes jumped onto Siss’s frozen body and started eating all of the ice. Once all the ice was gone, the slimes jumped off Siss, letting her fall face forward. Sombra teleported to catch her before she could hit one of the walls of the tub. Sombra then teleported back to where she was standing with Siss in her hands. Sombra laid Siss on her back.
“God, she is so cold!” Sombra exclaimed. Envy then put her hand on Siss’s shoulder.
“Siss?” Envy said. “Siss, can you hear me?” She then looked up at Sombra. “Sombra, go see if you can get them to do the same thing to Haydn.”
“On it.” Sombra said. Eventually, the same thing happened. Sombra teleported back to Envy and put Haydn right next to Siss. Holly then came bursting into the room.
“What is going on in here?” Holly yelled. She then noticed Siss and Haydn were out of the ice. She then gasped. “What did you do?”
“The slimes freed them by eating all the ice off of them.” Envy answered.
“They’re very cold though.” Sombra said.
“Sombra, go get some blankets!” Holly ordered.
“Alright.” Sombra said as she teleported away. Holly then walks towards Envy and kneels right next to her.
“Are they ok?” Envy asked.
“They’ve just been freed from the ice.” Holly answered. “It might take a few hours for them to recover from hibernation.” Sombra teleports back in, holding a stack of blankets.
“Here are the blankets as requested.” Sombra said as she handed the blankets to Holly.
“Thank you, Sombra.” Holly said as she took the blankets and wrapped each one around Siss and Haydn. “I think it’s best for y’all to leave the infirmary for now. I don’t want y’all to keep messing with the patients.”
"Fine. C'mon, Sombra." Envy said. Envy and Sombra walk out of the infirmary. As they walk out, they see Bonnie talking to Sarx the goblin tinkerer. Bonnie then turned to see Envy and Sombra walking out of the infirmary.
"Hey, Envy, Sombra." She said. "Check out this cool gun I got from Xavier." Bonnie pulled out a minishark.
"What is that, Bonnie?" Envy asked.
"This is called a minishark." Bonnie explained. "I asked Xavier how it was made and he said don't ask."
"That’s a bit odd." Sombra said.
“Also, we got two more people living here.” Bonnie said.
“More people showed up?” Envy said in an impressed tone.
“Yeah.” Bonnie said. “One of them is a painter. He is kinda boring to talk to. The other one is a party girl. She’s ok. It’s just that she’s also kinda annoying to me.”
“Is it ok if me and Sombra go say hi to them?” Envy asked.
“I guess.” Bonnie answered. “They went outside by the way.” Envy and Sombra went outside and found the painter observing the outside of the house.
“Hello there.” Envy shouted as she and Sombra walked up to him. The painter then noticed them.
“Oh, hi. You must be the owner of this place, right?” the painter asked.
“Yes I am.” Envy answered.
“It’s so nice to meet you.” the painter said with a smile. He then put his brush on the bucket he was holding in his left hand and put his free hand out. “I’m Bruno.”
“I’m Envy, and this is Sombra.” Envy said as she shook the painter’s hand.
“What’s up?” Sombra said. Bruno then noticed the bandages all over them.
“What happened to you two? You look like you’re in pretty bad shape.” Bruno asked.
“It’s a long story.” Envy answered.
“Oh. Well, I hope y’all get better.” Bruno said.
“As a painter, what do you mostly do?” Sombra asked.
“I can help you decorate your home if you want to.” Bruno answered. “I can even help give it an aesthetic feature. Do you want to start now?”
“Maybe later, Bruno.” Envy said. “I just feel like relaxing today.”
“Ok then. Let me know whenever you feel like it. I’m gonna head back in.” Bruno said as he walked back into the house.
“Alright, see you later.” Envy said. Just then, a girl shouted from right behind Envy and Sombra.
“Hi!” the girl shouted in an energetic voice. Envy jumped in fright. Sombra jumped in fright too, but teleported away as she did. As Envy turned around, she could see that the party girl was standing behind her.
“Good god! You scared me!” Envy exaggerated.
“Sorry. Sometimes I get too excited.” the party girl apologized. Sombra then teleported back to where she was.
“It’s fine. Just- Please don’t do that again.” Sombra said.
“My name’s Fantasy, by the way.” the party girl said.
“Well, I’m Sombra, and this is Envy.” Sombra said. Envy waved her hand a little as soon as she said that.
“I’ve got a quick question for y’all.” Fantasy said. “Do y’all like to party?”
“Ummm, yes?” Sombra answered.
“I mean, yeah.” Envy answered also. “Do you?”
“You know I do!” Fantasy said in an excited voice.
“Although, I’m not in the mood to party right now.” Envy said.
“Same.” Sombra said.
“Oh. Um, ok then.” Fantasy said less cheerfully.
“Well, we’re gonna go walk around. Catch you later.” Envy said.
“Alright, bye.” Fantasy said. An hour later, Envy and Sombra were lying down in the grass, looking at the clouds as they passed by. It was a pretty windy day today.
“It feels really nice out here.” Envy said.
“I know, right?” Sombra said.
“If only Ivan were here to see this.” Envy said.
“He really was a good man, Envy.” Sombra said. “At least he’s in a better place now.”
“Yeah, you’re right.” Envy said.
“By the way, do you still have that weird looking radio?” Sombra asked.
“Yeah. Why?” Envy asked.
“You wanna try and turn it on to see if it still works?” Sombra asked.
“I mean, I guess.” Envy answered. Envy pulled out the radio thing from her inventory. The radio thing had two different knobs. The left one was for volume adjustment, and the right one had three different settings, each with a different symbol. The first setting said the word, “off” on it. The second setting had a musical note. The third and final setting had an eyeball. Envy cranked the right knob up one notch. When she did, catchy 1900s music started playing from the speaker. “Hey, it works!” Envy cried. Sombra then started grooving to the music being played.
“Damn, this actually slaps.” Sombra said. “Turn up the volume.” Envy turned the left knob more to the right, raising the volume. Before Envy could set the radio thing down, she noticed the eyeball symbol, indicating the third setting.
“Hey, Sombra?” Envy asked. “What do you think this setting is?” Sombra noticed the eyeball symbol.
“I don’t know, Envy.” Sombra answered. Envy shrugged her shoulders and cranked the right knob up to the third setting. As she did, she noticed her vision starting to change. Everything that she saw started to become dull in color. “What the?” she said as she stood up.
“What’s wrong, Envy?” Sombra asked.
“Everything just went slightly monochrome! Are you not seeing this?” Envy cried.
“What are you talking about?” Sombra said in confusion.
“You can’t see it?” Envy asked.
“Can’t see what?” Sombra asked back. Just then, Envy noticed something yellow glowing on a nearby boulder.
“Hey, there’s something glowing on that boulder over there!” Envy cried as she pointed at the boulder. She ran towards the boulder while still holding the radio thing. The music was still playing. As she got closer to it, she realized that the thing glowing on there was actually a hidden message.
“What is it, Envy?” Sombra asked.
“It’s……a message?” Envy said in confusion. She then read the message out loud. “‘The Old One’s Army will come to confront you.’”
“The Old One’s Army? Who’s the Old One’s Army?” Sombra asked.
“I have no idea.” Envy answered. That’s when Envy realized something. “Wait a second! Sombra, do you remember the message that was found on the back of the radio?”
“Yeah, what about it?” Sombra asked back.
“I think this is what it meant by seeing the world differently.” Envy said. Envy cranked the right knob to the off setting and then handed the radio thing to Sombra. As she did so, the music stopped, her vision went back to normal, and the message on the boulder faded away. “See for yourself.” she said. Sombra cranked the right knob back to the eyeball setting, and then the same thing happened to her. Sombra had a bewildered look on her face as she looked at what the world around her became.
“Ok, I’m kinda freaked out now!” Sombra said. “Can you see it?”
“No, I can’t.” Envy answered. Suddenly, Sombra heard something.
“Wait…..” she said as she cranked the volume knob down to mute. As the music got quieter, Sombra could start to clearly hear vocal audio coming from the radio thing.
“Sombra, what is it?” Envy asked. There was a brief pause.
“I can hear talking coming from the radio, and it doesn’t seem to be affected by me adjusting the volume.” Sombra said.
“What is it saying?” Envy asked once more.
“I don’t know. It almost sounds like a forbidden knowledge of some kind.” Sombra answered. “Wait, the message! What about the message?” Sombra turned to look at the same boulder, but it had a different message written on it. As she read it, she started to have a disturbed look on her face.
“What’s wrong, Sombra?” Envy asked.
“‘Everyone will find out the monster you truly are.’” Sombra said as she read the message out loud. She stepped back a little as she kept staring at the message written in yellow.
“Sombra?” Envy said in a worried tone.
“I…..I’m going home.” Sombra said. "Take this back too." She turned off the radio thing and put it on the ground. She then pulled out her ice mirror and vanished.
“Wait! Sombra!” Envy cried. But it was too late. Envy picked up the radio thing and pulled out her magic mirror, warping away.
