Chapter 22 - Stains of Crimson
The very next day, the group set off into the desert. Before they left, Bonnie forged a full set of necro armor, since Andrew told her it was the best set for ranged weapon users. Envy also let her have the bone glove from Skeletron, since no one else could use it. Siss also used the bones and cobwebs she collected to make a spinal tap, which was a stronger whip. As the group traveled further and further into the desert, it started to get a little windy.
"Quite breezy out here, isn't it?" Bonnie said.
"I don't know, Bonnie." Haydn said. "Something doesn't feel right about this wind." The wind then started to pick up speed. Sombra turned around and a look of fear came over her.
"Envy!" She cried.
"What?" Envy responded.
"Look!" Sombra yelled as she pointed at what she saw. There in the distance was a huge cloud of sand, and it was coming towards them.
"Sandstorm!" Siss cried.
"Brace yourselves!" Simon shouted. The wind howled as the sandstorm devoured them. The strong wind began to push the group around.
"Envy, what do we do!?" Sombra panicked. "We can't just stand here!"
"Wait, isn't the wind blowing East?" Siss asked.
"It's blowing exactly in the direction we were going in, Siss!" Sombra yelled.
"What point are you trying to make here, Siss!?" Envy yelled.
"What I'm trying to say is that maybe we can use the wind to our advantage." Siss explained. "So, if you and Simon try to fly while we all hold onto both of you, maybe we can actually get out of here."
"That could get us killed!" Simon cried.
"Sounds like a plan to me!" Bonnie shouted.
"If it will help us get out of this sandstorm, I'm down with it!" Haydn shouted.
"Oh, Babe?" Envy said as she looked at him.
"Ugh! Fine!" Simon said. "But if I get killed again, it'll be your fault, Siss." Envy and Simon held hands while the others held onto them.
"Get to the top of that sand dune!" Siss said. "We should be able to travel without having anything blocking the way!" As the group carefully walked towards the top of the sand dune, an angry tumbler rolled off the sand dunes and into Haydn. Haydn yelled as the angry tumbler crashed onto him. The angry tumbler rolled off of him.
"Haydn!" Sombra cried. Haydn got up and brushed himself off. He then saw the angry tumbler approaching him.
"You vile tumbleweed!" he yelled as he threw a shadownite hammer at it. The angry tumbler then split into chunks as the hammer spun right through it. Haydn reached his hand out as he retracted the hammer. Eventually, the group made it to the top of the sand dune.
"Welp, here goes nothing…" Envy said, a little nervous. "3…."
"2…" Simon counted down with her.
"1!" Both of them said as they spread their wings open and got carried away by the wind. When Envy woke up, the weather was much calmer than it was before, yet still windy. She then noticed that she was sitting in red grass. Simon then sat up.
"Ow, my head!" He groaned.
"Simon!" Envy cried. She then hugged him tightly.
“Envy, you’re ok!” Simon cried. Envy laughed. The two then turned around and saw the others staring at them with an awkward expression.
“Sorry, were we interrupting something?” Sombra asked.
“...No, not at all.” Simon answered.
“Ah, ok. I thought y’all needed some privacy.” Sombra said.
“Hell yeah! That’s what I’m talking about!” Bonnie shouted.
“I told y’all it would work!” Siss said.
“We should do that again some time.” Bonnie said. Envy and Simon rapidly shook their heads no in response.
“Ow!” Haydn grunted as he stood up.
“Haydn, are you ok?” Sombra asked.
“I guess.” Haydn said. “I think I hit a cactus.” he then looked at the environment around him. The grass, the trees, the water, everything was blood red. "Where are we even?" He asked. Sombra’s eyes then widened as she picked up the scent of raw meat in the air. She turned around and looked at the blood red forest. The others did the same. The sky gave off a red hue as well.
"Sombra," Siss asked, "is this…"
"...The Crimson." Sombra said. Just then, Simon’s sculk sensors clicked as he heard something approaching from the forest. As he turned, everyone else looked at him.
"Babe, what is it?" Envy asked. A face monster approached from the woods. The monster let out a hideous snarl as he charged at Simon. Bonnie shot the face monster in the head with one of her handguns. The face monster then fell to the ground, dead.
"Sombra, what the hell was that thing?" Bonnie asked.
"That was a face monster." Sombra answered.
"A creepy name for such a creature." Simon said.
“I should tell you guys,” Sombra said, “This place is way different from the Corruption, back west. Other than the fact that everything is red instead of purple.”
“What do you mean, Sombra?” Envy asked. “What else is different here?”
“You know how the Corruption has all those chasms everywhere?” Sombra explained. “Well here, there are no chasms. Instead, there’s these caves on the surface. I never went in any of them, so I don’t know what lies below.”
“Can you try to take us to one of them?” Envy asked.
“Yes, one of them should be close by.” Sombra said. Just then, a crimera swooped in from behind and snatched up Siss with its mantables.
“Guys, help!” Siss screamed as the crimera carried her away into the sky.
“Siss!” Envy cried. She soared into the sky, after her captured friend. As Envy got up close, she slashed the crimera in half with her muramasa. The crimera then fell with Siss still in its grasp. Envy swooped down and caught her. “Siss, are you ok?” Envy asked as they landed back on the ground.
“Yeah, I’m ok, Envy.” Siss said. “Thanks.” She then looked down at the bloody crimera head that was still attached to her abdomen. “Eww! Eww! Eww!” she said as she pulled its mantibles. The crimera head fell to the ground, still bleeding.
“Envy!” Simon shouted as he swooped in from above with Bonnie on his back. Sombra teleported next to them with Haydn, holding his hand.
“Are you two ok?” Sombra asked.
“Yes, we’re good.” Siss said. Later, the group trekked further into the dark, crimified forest. They then came across a crimified pond.
"Is that a pond?" Haydn asked. Envy squinted at the pond ahead.
"Yeah, it is." Envy answered. Upon closer inspection, the water looked bloody and disgusting. There were chunks of flesh and bones floating around. Simon almost vomited at the sight of it.
"Gross." Siss said as she stared at the pond. She then noticed something swimming around in the water. As she looked closer, she could see that it was a crimified goldfish. The fish then jumped out at her. Siss screamed as the fish almost hit her face. The scream was so loud that it echoed through the entire forest. Luckily, the fish missed and landed on the ground, flopping around. Bonnie noticed the fish and kicked it back into the pond.
"Siss, what the hell!?" Bonnie yelled. Snarls then echoed from the woods around them. Siss quickly got back up and lashed out her spinal tap. "Now look what you did!" Bonnie said.
"Sorry!" Siss said.
"Siss, lookout!" Sombra cried as she casted water bolts at an incoming crimera. Another crimera swooped down. Envy slashed it with her muramasa while Simon stabbed it with his Excalibur. A face monster appeared. Bonnie shot the face monster in its face with her demon bow. Siss summoned her finch and slime minions as more crimeras and face monsters appeared. The minions attacked the face monsters while Siss lashed her whip at the incoming crimeras. Soon enough, there were crimified enemies everywhere.
"There’s too many of them!" Haydn said as he smashed a crimera with his shadownite hammer.
"Babe, look!" Sombra cried. She pointed at something in the distance. Haydn looked in the direction Sombra was pointing in and saw a pathway out.
"Guys, this way!" He shouted. Haydn and Sombra escaped down the path. The others followed. The group then ran into a clearing in the forest. They slowed down and rested.
"I think we lost them." Sombra panted.
"If I had to choose to be stranded in either the Corruption or the Crimson, I would choose Corruption." Bonnie said.
"I think I would agree with you, Bonnie" Envy panted. Siss looked around and noticed something massive.
"Uhh…guys…" Siss said. The others looked in her direction and stared in awe. There, in the background was a giant skeleton.
"Is that a skeleton?" Simon asked.
"Look at the size of that thing!" Bonnie said.
"Who does it even belong to?" Haydn asked. Envy then remembered something from Andrew’s legend. As she stared back at the skeleton, she recognized who that skeleton once was. Siss then realized as well.
"Envy, is that…?" Siss slowly asked.
"...Cthulhu…" Envy said.
"What?" Haydn asked.
"That’s the skeleton of Cthulhu." Envy said. Simon looked around and saw something behind the shadewood trees.
“Hey guys, look over there.” Simon said. The others looked and saw the object. As they approached it, they could see that it was an entrance to a cave.
“Wooow!” Siss said.
“Sombra, is this one of those caves you talked about earlier?” Bonnie asked.
“This is one of them.” Sombra answered.
“Hmm. I guess this is one thing that makes this place at least better than the Corruption, since this place has no random holes everywhere.” Haydn said.
“I can’t blame ya, buddy.” Bonnie said. Just then, a scream echoed from the cave.
“What was that?” Siss asked. Sombra then asked,
“Was that…..a scream?”
